Sportsworld is a defunct Indian sports magazine that was published by the Ananda Bazar group [1] from 1978 to 1994.

History and profile

Sportsworld was founded in 1978. [2] The first editor of the magazine was Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi who edited the magazine until 1994 when it was closed. [3] Published in Calcutta, the magazine was one of the major English-language sports magazines in India. [4] The magazine was published weekly. [2] It was sold to the other magazine Sportstar , published by The Hindu Group in Madras. The magazine was the home of young journalists such as Rohit Brijnath, [2] Mudar Patherya [3] and quizmaster Derek O'Brien. The magazine ceased publication in 1994. [3]

Rohit David Brijnath is a veteran Indian sports journalist. Early in his career, Brijnath was a key member of the now-defunct weekly magazine Sportsworld, where he wrote alongside young journalists such as Mudar Patherya and Andy O'Brien. He has also worked for India Today and has written a recurring sports column for the BBC News website since 2004. He has also written for the Indian publication The Sportstar. He currently resides in Singapore with his wife, where he writes for the Straits Times. He also has a column called 'Game Theory' in the Indian publication 'Mint'.

Rajiv Gandhi Stadium is an athletic stadium in Mualpui, Salem Veng, Aizawl, Mizoram, India. It is used mainly for football and athletic games. This stadium is named after Rajiv Gandhi, 6th Prime Minister of India and currently it is the home stadium of I-League side Aizawl FC. The stadium is also used by clubs of the Mizoram Premier League.

Sport and Pastime was a weekly sports magazine published by The Hindu Group from 1947 to 1968. Founded by S. K. Gurunathan, the magazine was eventually stopped in 1968. It was replaced with Sportstar in 1978.

Anil Alexander Aldrin is a player of the Indian Men's National field hockey team. His family hailed from Kerala in a place named Murukanpuzha in Trivandrum. He also played in the Asian Games in 1994 and 1998, winning the gold in his second appearance at Bangkok, and he represented India in Champions Trophy in 1995 and 1996 at home in Madras. The 2020–21 Hyderabad FC season was the club's second competitive season since its inception in 2019. The season covered the period from 1 June 2020 to 31 May 2021.

Vijay Lokapally is an Indian sport journalist and author. He started his career when he joined the Patriot newspaper in 1981, and later moved to The Hindu Group from 1986. He is based in Delhi and married to Sunanda, with whom he has a son, Akshay.
