Gore is a town and district in the Southland region of the South Island of New Zealand. It has a resident population of 8,240 as of June 2023. Gore is known for its country music scene and hosts an annual country music festival. The town is also surrounded by farmland and is an important centre for agriculture in the region.

Te Tomairangi Marae is an Invercargill Marae on the same city block as St Josephs School and St. Mary's Basilica. In late 2005, the Marae was affected by vandals who set fire to the main building. Months previously a Warehouse within a few hundred metres was also burnt. The fire consumed much of the marae. As of March 2005 the marae is currently boarded up. After being destroyed by fire twice the building reopened in 2008 with a sprinkler system installed.

St Patrick's Basilica is a church in Waimate in New Zealand's Canterbury Region, known for its style of architecture. It is an Italianate-Romanesque style with an arcaded portico, and the tower is impressively louvred. The church was built in 1908–1909, with the tower added in 1912. The basilica is listed by Heritage New Zealand as a Historic Place, Category 1.

In July 2022, the Southern DHB was dissolved as part of a nationwide overhaul of the district health board system. Its former functions and responsibilities were taken over by Te Whatu Ora.
