St Paul's Cathedral, Embu is a Cathedral of the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) located in the north of the town of Embu. It serves as the Bishop's seat in the Diocese of the same name, and as such is the mother church of a congregation of some 45,000.

A cathedral is a Christian church which contains the cathedra of a bishop, thus serving as the central church of a diocese, conference, or episcopate. The equivalent word in German for such a church is Dom ; see also Duomo in Italian, Dom(kerk) in Dutch, and cognates in many other European languages. Churches with the function of "cathedral" are usually specific to those Christian denominations with an episcopal hierarchy, such as the Catholic, Anglican, Orthodox, and some Lutheran and Methodist churches. Embu is a town located approximately 120 kilometres (75 mi) northeast of Nairobi towards Mount Kenya. Embu served as the provincial headquarters of the Eastern Province in Kenya and is also the county headquarters of Embu County. Located on the south-eastern slopes of Mount Kenya, the town of Embu had a population of 41,092 in 1999.

Serving Embu and Wajir administrative districts and created on 1 July 1990, Embu Diocese was initially part of the Diocese of Mount Kenya East and in its present form came into existence on 1 July 1997, when the Diocese of Mbeere was split from it.

Newly built in 1988 the cathedral features windows given to it by Chelmsford Cathedral, a church with which it has had a link since 1979. [1]

Dean of Chelmsford

The Dean of Chelmsford is the head and chair of the Cathedral Chapter, the governing body of Chelmsford Cathedral, the Cathedral Church of St Mary the Virgin, St Peter and St Cedd. Before 2000 the post was designated as a provost, which was then the equivalent of a dean at most English cathedrals. The cathedral is the mother church of the Diocese of Chelmsford and seat of the Bishop of Chelmsford. The Dean of Chelmsford is also responsible for the Chapel of St Peter-on-the-Wall at Bradwell-on-Sea, founded by St Cedd, among the oldest church buildings in regular use in England.

David Mukuba Gitari was a Kenyan Anglican Archbishop. He was the third Primate and Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Kenya, from 1997 to 2002, and at the same time, Bishop of the Diocese of Nairobi. He was married to Grace Wanjiru, since 1966, and they had three children.

He had previously been Archdeacon of Barking in the same Diocese from 2013 to 2018. Perumbalath was born and brought up in the ancient Syrian Christian community in Kerala, South India. He moved to north India for higher studies and then teaching. He was ordained in the Church of North India in 1994.

Robert Wilfrid Springett is a British Anglican bishop. He has served as the Bishop of Tewkesbury since his consecration as a bishop on 30 November 2016. He previously served as the Archdeacon of Cheltenham in the same diocese from 2010.
