Initially the Kosovo media did not give importance to this derby but since 2012 the media has changed opinion for the derby. The rivalry comes about as Gjilani split from Drita and thus a new club was created.
The 2018 Kosovar Supercup was the 17th edition of the Kosovar Supercup, an annual football match played between the winners of the previous season's Football Superleague of Kosovo and Kosovar Cup competitions. The match was played between Drita, champions of the 2016–17 Football Superleague of Kosovo and Prishtina, who beat their opponents to win the 2017 Kosovar Cup Final. Watched by a crowd of 10,000, Drita won the match 2–1 and claimed their first Supercup title.
