Stanley Block

Stanley Block, CFA is an Emeritus Professor of Finance [1] at Texas Christian University (TCU) in Fort Worth, Texas. He is best known as coauthor with Geoffrey Hirt of numerous books in finance, including Foundations of Financial Management [2] and Fundamentals of Investment Management. [3] The first-mentioned text has sold over a million copies.

Education

Block received his bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1961. He received an MBA from Cornell University in 1964 and a Ph.D. from Louisiana State University in 1967.

Career

He has published articles in such journals as Financial Management , the Journal of Financial Services Research, the Journal of Portfolio Management , the Journal of Accountancy , the Financial Analysts Journal , and the Journal of Finance . He is past president of the Southwestern Finance Association and a former director of the Financial Management Association.

Awards

At TCU he has twice won the award as the outstanding instructor in the MBA Program; the Dean’s Teaching Award; and the Distinguished Teacher Award for the M.J. Neeley School of Business in the year 2002. In 2006, he was selected for the Chancellor’s Award as the University’s Outstanding Professor.

Stewart Clay Myers is the Robert C. Merton Professor of Financial Economics at the MIT Sloan School of Management. He is notable for his work on capital structure and innovations in capital budgeting and valuation, and has had a "remarkable influence" on both the theory and practice of corporate finance. Myers, in fact, coined the term "real option". He is the co-author with Richard A. Brealey and Franklin Allen of Principles of Corporate Finance, a widely used and cited business school textbook, now in its 11th edition. He is also the author of dozens of research articles.

Frank J. Fabozzi is an American economist, educator, writer, and investor, currently Professor of Practice at The Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School and a Member of Edhec Risk Institute. He was previously a Professor of Finance at EDHEC Business School, Professor in the Practice of Finance and Becton Fellow in the Yale School of Management, and a Visiting Professor of Finance at the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has authored and edited many books, three of which were coauthored with Nobel laureates, Franco Modigliani and Harry Markowitz. He has been the editor of the Journal of Portfolio Management since 1986 and is on the board of directors of the BlackRock complex of closed-end funds.

Robert Alan Jarrow is the Ronald P. and Susan E. Lynch Professor of Investment Management at the Johnson Graduate School of Management, Cornell University. Professor Jarrow is a co-creator of the Heath–Jarrow–Morton framework for pricing interest rate derivatives, a co-creator of the reduced form Jarrow–Turnbull credit risk models employed for pricing credit derivatives, and the creator of the forward price martingale measure. These tools and models are now the standards utilized for pricing and hedging in major investment and commercial banks.

Zvi Bodie is an American economist, author and professor. He was the Norman and Adele Barron Professor of Management at Boston University, teaching finance at Questrom for 43 years before retiring in 2015. His textbook, Investments, (with Kane and Marcus) is the market leader and is used in the certification programs of the CFA Institute and the Society of Actuaries. Bodie's work has centered on pension finance and investment strategy. He continues to do consulting work and media interviews.

Frank M. Bass was an American academic in the field of marketing research and marketing science. He was the creator of the Bass diffusion model that describes the adoption of new products and technologies by first-time buyers. He died on December 1, 2006.

Floyd Norris is the former chief financial correspondent of The New York Times and International Herald Tribune. He wrote a regular column on the stock market for the Times, plus a blog. He now serves as a professor at Johns Hopkins University.

David Martin Darst, CFA, is an American financier, educator, author, and triathlete. For 17 years, he was a Managing Director and Chief Investment Strategist of Morgan Stanley Wealth Management, where he served as Vice Chairman of the Morgan Stanley Wealth Management Global Investment Committee. He was the founding President of the Morgan Stanley Investment Group, and the founding Chairman of the Morgan Stanley Asset Allocation Committee. Since 2014, he has served as an independent Senior Advisor to and a member of the Morgan Stanley Wealth Management Global Investment Committee.

Sheridan Dean Titman is a professor of finance at the University of Texas at Austin, where he holds the McAllister Centennial Chair in Financial Services at the McCombs School of Business. He received a B.S. degree (1975) from the University of Colorado and an M.S. (1978) and Ph.D. (1981) from Carnegie Mellon University.

David Hillier is Associate Principal at the University of Strathclyde and Executive Dean of the Strathclyde Business School, having previously held the Ziff Chair in Financial Markets at Leeds University Business School, University of Leeds. He has taught financial and accounting topics in a number of academic institutions in Greece, Italy, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Spain, Tanzania, Thailand and others. Craig Woodworth Holden was the finance department chair and Gregg T. and Judith A. Summerville Chair of Finance at the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. His research focused on market microstructure. He was secretary-treasurer of the Society for Financial Studies. He was an associate editor of the Journal of Financial Markets. His M.B.A. and Ph.D. were from the Anderson School of Management at UCLA. He received the Fama-DFA Prize for the second best paper in capital markets published in the Journal of Financial Economics in 2009, the Spangler-IQAM Award for the best investments paper published in the Review of Finance in 2017-2018, and the Philip Brown Prize for the best paper published in 2017 using SIRCA data. His research has been cited more than 4,300 times. He has written two books on financial modeling in Excel: Excel Modeling in Investments and Excel Modeling in Corporate Finance. He has chaired 22 dissertations, been a member or chair of 62 dissertations, and serves on the program committees of the Western Finance Association and European Finance Association.

Bruno Solnik was a professor of finance at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in Hong Kong. He was academic director of the HKUST-NYU Master in Global Finance. He is also distinguished emeritus professor of finance at HEC Paris.

Stephen Todd Walker is an American finance expert and author. He has an extensive background in alternative investments. He has written two books on the subject, Wave Theory For Alternative Investments: Riding The Wave with Hedge Funds, Commodities, and Venture Capital by McGraw-Hill in December 2010 and Understanding Alternative Investments: Creating Diversified Portfolios that Ride the Wave of Investment Success by Palgrave MacMillan in July 2014. Presently, he is a senior vice president at Royal Bank of Canada.

Jeremy James Siegel is an American economist who is the Russell E. Palmer Professor of Finance at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Siegel comments extensively on the economy and financial markets. He appears regularly on networks including CNN, CNBC and NPR, and writes regular columns for Kiplinger's Personal Finance and Yahoo! Finance. Siegel's paradox is named after him.

Henrik Cronqvist is the Robert J. and Carolyn A. Waltos Dean and Professor of Economics of the George L. Argyros School of Business and Economics at Chapman University in Orange, California, a position he has held since August 2022. He previously served as a professor of finance, Bank of America scholar, and vice dean for faculty and research at the University of Miami School of Business, where he conducted interdisciplinary research and taught finance and management courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
