Stanley Goagoseb (born 7 March 1967) is a Namibian retired footballer who played as a defender or midfielder. He played internationally with Namibia and appeared at the 1998 Africa Cup of Nations. [1] Goagoseb started his career as a midfielder, before transferring to a defender in his later career. He was often known by the nicknames Tiger or Big Cat. [2]

Early life

Goagoseb was born in Windhoek in 1967, but at the age of one, his family was forced to relocate to Katutura. Goagoseb attended multiple schools, including A.I Steenkamp (alongside future national team player and manager Lucky Richter), [3] Jan Jonker Afrikaner High School, Braunfels Boys Boarding School and Ella Du Plessis High School. [2]

Club career

His started his career at Civics in 1984 at the age of 17, where he would remain for the entirety of his career. [2]

International career

He made his debut for Namibia in 1992, as a second-half substitute in a 3–0 defeat to Madagascar. [2]

Goagoseb was part of the Namibia squad at the 1998 Africa Cup of Nations, and made three appearances as Namibia were eliminated in the group stage. [4] [5]

Personal life

Goagoseb retired as a player in 2003 but remained active in football as a youth coach. He worked as a farmer in the Mariental area. [4] He later became a self-made merchandiser in clothes and footwear in Johannesburg. He is divorced and father of seven children. [3]

Collin Benjamin is a Namibian professional football coach and a former player who played as a midfielder. He is the head coach of the Namibia national football team. He spent most of his professional career with Hamburger SV while representing Namibia at international level.

Ben Bamfuchile, also known as Ben Pabili, was a Zambian football defender and coach. Bamfuchile played for the Nkana Red Devils in the 1980s and later coached the same team, as well as the Zambia national football team from 1998 to 2000, holding the distinction of qualifying Zambia to the 2000 African Cup of Nations with best record amongst all the teams of 5 wins and a draw in the 6 qualifying games. Bamfuchile also coached Namibia and therefore coached and led two different teams to the African Cup of Nations; the Zambia national football team in the 2000 African Cup of Nations, and the Namibia national football team in 2008. Jimmy Jones is an American former all-star quarterback in the Canadian Football League (CFL). Jones was a graduate of the University of Southern California (USC). He moved to Canada in 1973, and played for the Montreal Alouettes, Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the Ottawa Rough Riders, and helped lead the Alouettes to a Grey Cup win in 1974.

Athiel Mbaha is a Namibian former footballer who played as a goalkeeper for the Namibia national football team. He also played for Namibian sides African Stars, Blue Waters, Orlando Pirates, Ramblers and United Africa Tigers and South African sides Black Leopards and Maritzburg United. A member of the Namibia national football team, Mbaha competed at the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, playing against Ghana and Guinea, and was capped 36 times by Namibia. Mbaha has been deaf since the age of seven. He also plays chess.
