Stanley Korshak is an American luxury goods specialty department store in Dallas, Texas. The largest independent department store in the United States, it is located in the Uptown neighborhood in The Crescent retail complex. [1]

History

In 1909 Stanley Korshak opened a luxury goods store in Chicago, one of the first to offer designer women's apparel. [2] After suffering financial problems throughout the 1980s, Dallas heiress and developer Caroline Hunt purchased the rights to the name. A new store in Dallas in the upscale Crescent development opened in 1986; the store in Chicago closed in 1990. [3] The Dallas store was managed by Crawford Brock, who later purchased the business in 2002. Over the years the store has expanded to include additional departments and offerings covering 75,000 square feet. [4] It has garnered several awards and accolades, including being named one of the 50 most influential men's stores in America by Women's Wear Daily in 2013. [5] Industry estimates put annual sales at $40 million, or $600 per square foot. [4]

One Magnificent Mile Mixed-use high-rise tower in Chicago

One Magnificent Mile is a mixed-use high-rise tower completed in 1983 at the northern end of Michigan Avenue on the Magnificent Mile in Chicago containing upscale retailers on the ground floor, followed by office space above that and luxury condominium apartments on top. Harold Stanley Marcus was president (1950–1972) and later chairman of the board (1972–1976) of the luxury retailer Neiman Marcus in Dallas, Texas, which his father and aunt had founded in 1907. During his tenure at the company, he also became a published author, writing his memoir Minding the Store and also a regular column in The Dallas Morning News. After Neiman Marcus was sold to Carter Hawley Hale Stores, Marcus initially remained in an advisory capacity to that company, but later began his own consulting business, which continued until his death. He served his local community as an avid patron of the fine arts and as a civic leader. In a chapter titled "Mr. Stanley" — the name by which Marcus was known locally for decades — in his 1953 work Neiman-Marcus, Texas, Frank X. Tolbert called him "Dallas's most internationally famous citizen" and worthy of being called "the Southwest's No. 1 businessman-intellectual."

Until its closing in 2010, Simon David was the oldest gourmet and specialty foods store in Dallas, Texas. Simon David was a long-time specialty retail brand and division of Tom Thumb Supermarkets. Tom Thumb became a division of Randalls in 1992, which itself became a 112-store division of Safeway Inc. in 1999.

Sibleys, Lindsay and Curr Building Historic high-rise building in Rochester, New York

Sibley's, Lindsay and Curr Building is a historic commercial building located at Rochester in Monroe County, New York. It was designed by noted Rochester architect J. Foster Warner and built for Sibley's in 1904. The original wing of the building was constructed in 1906 as a five-story, Chicago school style skeletal steel building sheathed in brown Roman brick with deeply set Chicago style windows, topped by a clock tower with Baroque and Renaissance style details.
