The Stanwood Camano News is a weekly newspaper serving Stanwood and Camano Island in Washington. It had a circulation of 2,261 in 2020. [1]
The newspaper originated in 1903 as the Stanwood Tidings. The name changed to the Stanwood News sometime between 1917–1920, and again to Twin City News in 1930. [2]
Cliff Danielson took over the paper from owners Ray Horn and Harry Dence in 1959 and changed the name back to the Stanwood News a year later. In 1980, the name was changed to Stanwood Camano News; two years later, the owner of the paper purchased the nearby Camano Island Sun. [2]
Dave Pinkham became the owner and publisher in 1985. He had previously worked as a reporter and then editor at the Whidbey News-Times . In 2009, Pinkham retired and the paper entered into a partnership with the Skagit Valley Herald to manage the Stanwood paper. The Stanwood Camano News maintained its office in Stanwood, but the printing of the paper was moved off site in June 2009 to The Herald's facility in Mount Vernon. [3]
In 2015, Pinkham sold the Stanwood Camano News to Pioneer News Group, publishers of the Mount Vernon-based Skagit Valley Herald . [4] Two years later, all of Pioneer News Group's newspapers were sold to Adams Publishing Group. [5]
In 2021, the newspaper moved to a new office in Stanwood. [2]
Stanwood is a city in Snohomish County, Washington, United States. The city is located 50 miles (80 km) north of Seattle, at the mouth of the Stillaguamish River near Camano Island. As of the 2020 census, its population is 7,705.
Camano Island is a large island in Possession Sound, a section of Puget Sound. It is part of Island County, Washington, and is located between Whidbey Island and the mainland by the Saratoga Passage to the west and Port Susan and Davis Slough to the east. The island has one road connection to the mainland, via State Route 532 over the Camano Gateway Bridge at the northeast end of the island, connecting to the city of Stanwood.

He served as the president of the Washington State Publishers' Association in 1957 and 1958, received multiple awards in journalism, and repeatedly represented Washington State at the National Editorial Association.
