Stathis Psaltis (Greek : Στάθης Ψάλτης; 27 February 1951 – 21 April 2017) was a Greek cinema, TV and theatre comic actor. He was best known for starring in many 1980s films, as many as four a year. [1] He has been called "iconic" and a "household name". [2]
He was born in Velo, Corinthia in 1951, where he lived his childhood until the age of 11, when his family moved to Aegaleo. His brother is also the actor Yiannis Rotas. He studied at the Drama school of Konstantinos Michaelidis. He married Taria Boura and in 2006 he married actress Christina Fitsaki. He already had one daughter, Maria, from his previous marriage to Katia Kyvelou.
He starred in a lot of Greek films and also in theater. He became popular in the 1980s with commercial movies that included "Kamikazi agapi mou", "Troxonomos Varvara", "Ta kamakia", "Vasika Kalispera sas", "Kai o protos matakias", "Trellos eimai oti thelo kano", "Ela na agapithoume darling", and "Mantepse ti kano ta vradia".
On April 12, 2014, the actor suffered a stroke. He was admitted to the Athens Oncology Hospital "Agios Savvas" on March 14, 2017, dealing with multiple cancer metastases. Since April 16, he was intubated in the Hospital's Intensive Care Unit, where he died on April 21, 2017. He was buried at the Zografou cemetery, in the presence of many of his friends and colleagues, on April 24, 2017. His remains were transferred to the First Cemetery of Athens on July 27, 2022. He has sold millions of records as a producer and is most recognizable for his four-decade-long collaboration with Anna Vissi, while some of his other well-known collaborations include Tolis Voskopoulos and Sakis Rouvas. Karvelas has released multiple personal studio albums that have had mild to big success. In 2012, Alpha TV ranked Karvelas as the 13th top-certified composer in Greece in the phonographic era.
Paraksenes Eikones is the name of a Greek album by singer Anna Vissi released in Greece and Cyprus on December 5, 2003. The album featured the song "Eisai" that later became Call Me in English and which topped the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play in 2005. The album was later officially released in Turkey and Bulgaria.
