Statia Day is a national holiday celebrated in the Caribbean island of Sint Eustatius, a special municipality of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. [1] [2] It celebrates the "First Salute", when Sint Eustatius (known locally as Statia) became the first country to recognize the United States. [2]

F. D. Roosevelt Airport

F. D. Roosevelt Airport is the airport located on the island of Sint Eustatius, Caribbean Netherlands. It was opened as "Golden Rock Airport" in 1946 and renamed for Franklin Delano Roosevelt. As of 2012, the only commercial aircraft that serves the island is the DHC-6 Twin Otter, although the runway can accommodate larger turboprop aircraft and some smaller jets. As of 2018, the largest aircraft type to operate at the airport is the ATR 42.

A status referendum was held in Sint Eustatius on 17 December 2014. Sint Eustatius had become a Dutch public body upon the dissolution of the Netherlands Antilles in 2010, despite this not being the status voted for, and so the 2014 referendum was supported as a way to resolve this. Although a majority of those voting opted for increased autonomy within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, voter turnout was well below the 60% required for the referendum to be binding.

The COVID-19 pandemic in Saba is part of the ongoing global viral pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), which was confirmed to have reached the Dutch Caribbean island of Saba on April 12, 2020. The island has a population of 1,905 people. As of 12 May, all cases were reported to have recovered. On 1 August, two new cases were imported which resolved on 9 September.

The Sint Eustatius national football team is the national association football team of the Caribbean island of Sint Eustatius. It is a not member of the Caribbean Football Union, CONCACAF, or FIFA and therefore cannot compete in tournaments sanctioned by these organizations. It is under the auspices of the Statia Football Association.

Golden Rock (anthem) 2010 national anthem

"Golden Rock" is the national anthem of Sint Eustatius, which was established by the Island Council on July 29, 2004, and was officially ratified on October 8, 2010. The anthem was composed by Pieter A. van den Heuvel.

2020 Sint Eustatius general election

Island Council elections were held in Sint Eustatius on 21 October 2020. Sint Eustatius is a special municipality of the Netherlands.

The Cottage Ball Bank is the main sports facility on the Caribbean island of Sint Eustatius. The facility contains a soccer pitch, open-air swimming pool, sports hall, baseball field, and several other fields. The facilities are also used by the island's schools. It is the national stadium as it hosts the matches of the Sint Eustatius national football team. In 2019 the Government of Sint Eustatius financed a number of renovation and expansion projects at the facility.
