The Stellar School System, is a private school for girls and boys in Pakistan, founded in 2008 by young entrepreneurs Savail Hussain, Jehanzeb Amin, Sikander Choudry and Jalal Hussain in collaboration with Pakistan academics including Dr. Akmal Hussain, Professor Shaista Sirajuddin, Mrs. Sonnu Rahman, Mrs. Shireen Rahim, Mrs. Zareena Saeed and Mr. Tariq Waheed.

The Stellar School System has two branches in Lahore (Gulberg and Johar Town).

The Head Office and the first two branches of the Stellar School System are located in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan.

Overview

The Stellar School System is for Playgroup to the Senior Level. [1] The Stellar School System can accommodate up to 280 students in its first two branches between the ages of 2 to 10 from Play Group to Class 5. The management of the Stellar School System plans on taking its school system up to the International Baccalaureate Level in the coming years. The Stellar School System will be having separate branches for boys and girls from Class 5 onwards.

Advisory board

The Stellar School System is overseen by an advisory board of Pakistan intellectuals, academics, and educationists.

Dr. Akmal Hussain [2]

Professor Shaista Sirajuddin has an MA from the University of Cambridge and an MLitt from the University of Oxford. She is founder of the annual Sirajuddin poetry competition. She is Chairperson of the Department of English at the Punjab University; Dean of the Arts and Humanities also at the Punjab University; and has been associated with the Lahore College of Arts and Science and the Lahore Grammar School. Mrs. Sonnu Rahman is the daughter of Professor G.D Sondhi, the first Indian principal of Government College, Lahore. She was President of the Debating Society of Pakistan and is a pioneers of parliamentary style debate in Pakistan. Mrs. Rahman has been honoured for her contribution to academia by having a debating competition named after her; The Sonnu Rahman All Pakistan Under 17 Debates Championship. She teaches World History at A Level institutions in Lahore. Her daughter Tahira Anwar is a lecturer of Sociology and Psychology.

Mr. Tariq Waheed is a mathematics instructor and teacher trainer at the primary and secondary levels. He has an Msc. in Education and a Certificate and Diploma in Education from the University of Bradford. He has over twenty years of experience in school teaching and has been associated with Beaconhouse, the Lahore Grammar School, Lahore Alma and Resource Academia.

Professor Shireen Rahim is part of the permanent faculty at the English Department, Punjab University and teaches Literature courses at the Postgraduate level. She is also the convener of the ELT Diploma Programme at the Department of English. As one of the founder members of the Society of Pakistan English Language Teachers (SPELT) she has vast experience in research in teacher education.

Mrs. Zareena Saeed has over 25 years of teaching experience at the school and university level. She is part of the permanent faculty at the department of English, Punjab University. She has also been associated with the Lahore College of Arts and Sciences, Lahore Grammar School, and Kinnaird College for women. She holds an MPhil and is a Phd. candidate at the Punjab University.

Mrs. Nuzhat Altaf (Principal, Johar Town Branch) She started out by joining Mrs. Alys Faiz's Shami Play Centre in Model Town, Lahore as a nursery teacher. She then joined The City School Quetta in 1988 as a nursery teacher and remained at the pre-school till 1996 when she was given the challenge of opening up a girl's campus in Quetta. That promotion led ultimately to her appointment as the Principal of the school in 2001.

Mr. Ahmed Adeel (Chief Operating Officer) has established more than 30 schools across the country for leading chains like Beaconhouse School System and The City School. He also established a school in the UAE from The City School platform.

Features and facilities

The teaching methods at the Stellar School System combine class room teaching, activity based learning (learning by doing) from play group to the senior level as opposed to rote based learning, group projects, accessing the internet, use of the latest technology in teaching aids including multimedia and audio-visual educational products on science, culture, history and the environment amongst other teaching techniques. The school does not charge any admission fee. There is a 50% concession in the tuition fee, security deposit and allied charges for every third child admitted by a parent.

The campus facilities include a well stocked library, computer laboratories, math, music and art rooms and spacious play areas.

Open houses and carnivals: the Stellar launch

The Stellar School System hosted four carnivals and open house events at their two campuses in March, 2008, to mark their launch. [5] These events were open to all parents, teachers and students. All four events comprised quizzes, puppet shows, singing, art and spelling competitions, school tours, food stalls, animal rides amongst other activities. [6]

Personalities such as Imran Khan (politician and former cricketer), Wasim Akram (former cricketer), Mian Ijaz ul Hassan (politician and artist), Najam Hussain Syed (poet), Dr. Mujahid Kamran (Vice Chancellor, Punjab University), Mrs. Nazish Ataullah (Principal, National College of Arts) and Vasay Chaudhry (actor and writer) attended as Chief Guests. The Governor of Punjab, Lieutenant General (retired) Khalid Maqbool inaugurated the Gulberg branch of the Stellar School System.
