Stephanie Kunze is an American politician serving as a member of the Ohio Senate for the 16th district. [1] She formerly served in the Ohio House of Representatives for the 24th district. Prior to her election,she was a member of Hilliard City Council and a secretary at Norwich Elementary School. [2]
In her 2009 race for Hilliard City Council,Kunze faced controversy over an apparent violation of Ohio law that prohibits classified public employees from participating in partisan primary elections. [3] She resigned her position with the school district after winning the Republican primary.
She was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives in 2012,defeating Democrat Maureen Reedy with 52% of the vote. Kunze's 2012 campaign was aided by school privatization and charter school advocacy group StudentsFirst,who sent mailers and distributed literature on her behalf. [4]
Kunze ran for re-election as a state representative in 2014,facing opposition from Democrat Kathy Hoff and Libertarian Mark M. Noble. [5] In 2016,Kunze opted to run for the Ohio Senate,winning with 58% of the vote.

Theodore S. Celeste is an American businessman and former politician. He is a member of the Democratic Party. After serving in the Peace Corps,Celeste,the brother of former Ohio governor and U.S. ambassador Dick Celeste,ran for the U.S. Senate in 2000 and lost to the Republican incumbent Mike DeWine. In 2006,Celeste was elected State Representative of Ohio's 24th District,and served until 2012.

On May 16,2021,Representative Steve Stivers resigned from his seat in the United States House of Representatives to become president and CEO of the Ohio Chamber of Commerce. Following Stivers' official communication of his intent to resign,Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced that the special election to fill the remainder of his term would be held on November 2,2021,with the primary election held on August 3,concurrent with the special election in Ohio's 11th congressional district. In the general election on November 2,Republican nominee Mike Carey defeated Democratic nominee Allison Russo by roughly 17 percentage points.

After working as a senior advisor at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau,in 2020 she campaigned against incumbent Joyce Beatty to represent Ohio's 3rd congressional district,which includes Columbus,in the United States House of Representatives. Also in 2020,she founded the non-profit Columbus Stand Up. In 2022 she ran for the United States Senate to succeed Rob Portman. She lost in the Democratic Primary to congressman Tim Ryan 69-17%.
