Stephen Alexander LaRoque was a Republican member of the North Carolina General Assembly. He represented the state's 10th House district,including constituents in Greene,Lenoir and Wayne counties. A business owner from Kinston,North Carolina,LaRoque served three terms.
LaRoque was defeated in the May 2012 Republican primary by John Bell. [1]
LaRoque was supposed to have redirected loans from the U.S Department of Agriculture to small business owners in rural areas with limited access to capital. He was indicted by a federal grand jury "on charges that he misappropriated money from a federal program..." [2] LaRoque resigned from the legislature in July 2012. [3] LaRoque used the money on salaries,new cars and bejeweled Faberge eggs. He was convicted on 12 counts including theft,money laundering and filing false tax returns though ten charges were later dismissed.(2013) [4] [5]
On August 1,2013,he was indicted on 12 counts. All but two of the twelve counts were set aside by U.S. Senior District Court Judge Malcolm Howard,due to juror misconduct,and a new trial was ordered. LaRoque pled guilty to aiding and abetting theft. [6]
He was released in May 2017 after serving one year and nine months. [7]

H. William DeWeese is an American politician who is a former member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. A member of the Democratic Party,DeWeese served as the 135th Speaker of the Pennsylvania House from 1993 to 1994. After five years of investigation by Republican State Attorney General Tom Corbett,he was indicted in December 2009 on six charges of conflict of interest,theft and criminal conspiracy on accusations that two members of his staff used state resources to campaign for political office. The trial began January 23,2010. He was re-elected in 2010 despite the charges,but was convicted of five of the six felony charges on February 6,2012.
Tom DeLay,a Republican U.S. Representative from Texas from 1979–83,and from 1985–2006 and the House Majority Leader from 2003–05,was convicted in 2010 of money laundering and conspiracy charges related to illegal campaign finance activities aimed at helping Republican candidates for Texas state office in the 2002 elections. A study published by the University of Illinois Chicago in 2022 ranked Illinois as the second most corrupt state in the nation,with 4 out of the last 11 governors serving time in prison.
