Stephen Battersby is a British practitioner of environmental health and an advocate for housing standards. [1] He is also known for his leadership as chief author of Clay's Handbook of Environmental Health. [2] [3]

Battersby is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH), and has held a number of leadership positions within the organisation, including president from 2008 through 2011. As of 2019, he served as one of CIEH's vice presidents. [4]

Battersby received his PhD from the University of Surrey, where his dissertation explored the public health implications of urban rat infestation. He is a Visiting Senior Research Fellow at the Robens Centre for Public and Environmental Health at the University of Surrey, and an associate of the Safe and Healthy Housing Unit at the University of Warwick. [5] [6] From 2013 to 2015, he was chair of the board of Generation Rent (formerly known as the National Private Tenants Organisation). [4] [7]

In 2014, he was invested as a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. [8]

Eviction

Eviction is the removal of a tenant from rental property by the landlord. In some jurisdictions it may also involve the removal of persons from premises that were foreclosed by a mortgagee.

Section 8 of the Housing Act of 1937, often called Section 8, as repeatedly amended, authorizes the payment of rental housing assistance to private landlords on behalf of low-income households in the United States. Fort Lauderdale, Florida Housing Authority Director William H. Lindsey, upon the advice of Housing Authority attorney J. Richard Smith, initially developed 11(b) financing in the early 1970s to accommodate a local savings and loan interested in assisting with urban renewal projects Mr. Lindsey eventually brought to fruition. This was the initial impetus for the subsequent development of the now well known Section 8 Program. Of the 5.2 million American Households that received rental assistance in 2018, approximately 2.2 million of those households received a Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher. 68% of total rental assistance in the United States goes to seniors, children, and those with disabilities. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development manages Section 8 programs.

Rent control in Ontario refers to a system of rent regulation in Ontario, Canada which limits the amount by which the rent paid by tenants for rental accommodation can increase.
