    Russell received the Wayne F. Placek Award from the American Psychological Foundation in 2000. In 2004, he was elected full member of the International Academy of Sex Research. He served as president of the Society for Research on Adolescence from 2012 to 2014. Russell was elected fellow of the National Council on Family Relations in 2017. [2]
