[3] Adkins played his final major league game for the Yankees on October 3, 1990. On June 26, 1991, he was traded to the Chicago Cubs in exchange for minor leaguer David Rosario.

He allowed 19 hits, four home runs, and 29 walks. He had one win in his career, on September 28, 1990, against the Milwaukee Brewers. Adkins never came to bat in his short major league career.
