Steve Gordon (born 17 September 1986) is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who last played for the Western Suburbs Rosellas of the Newcastle Rugby League. He previously played in the National Rugby League for the Newcastle Knights.
Gordon was born in Dubbo, New South Wales. Gordon played his junior football for Dubbo and the Western Suburbs Rosellas before being signed by the Newcastle Knights.
In round 8 of the 2007 NRL season, he made his first grade debut for Newcastle against the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs. Gordon played one further game for Newcastle which came in round 11 against Brisbane which saw Newcastle lose 71–6. After being released by Newcastle, Gordon played in the local competition with Western Suburbs and Central Newcastle. In 2024, Gordon faced a potential ban of twelve weeks after it was alleged he stomped on an opponent whilst playing for Raymond Terrace in the Newcastle A-Grade competition. [2] [3] [4]
Newcastle was a rugby league team who played in the New South Wales Rugby Football League premiership from 1908–1909, one of the nine foundation clubs. After the formation of several clubs in January 1908, members of the NSWRFL came to Newcastle to hold talks with the local footballing community at a meeting on 8 February 1908. However, at this meeting the motion to have a public meeting was lost. The local rugby union fraternity threatened sanctions and further recruitment occurred in secret. Finally, a band of Rebel Pioneers assembled and signed up on 10 April, just days before the start of the competition.
The Newcastle Rugby League is a local rugby league football competition in Newcastle, Australia. It is one of the oldest rugby league competitions in Australia, founded in 1910. A Newcastle representative team was also assembled from players in the League during most of the 20th century. The first grade competition also comprises the NSWRL Presidents Cup Northern Conference.
The Western Suburbs Rosellas, Western Suburbs, Wests, The Rosellas are a Rugby league club based in the Newcastle, NSW region of Australia. It was a foundation member of the Newcastle Rugby League in 1909 and has been one of the most successful teams in that competition. The club has had a number of players represent Australia including Wally Prigg, a member of the Australian Rugby League Hall of Fame. Johnny Raper, another member of the Australian Rugby League Hall of Fame played for Wests after he finished playing for the St. George Dragons.
Ben Farrar is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer. He is the player/head coach of New York Rugby League. He previously played for the North Queensland Cowboys and Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles in the National Rugby League and the Catalans Dragons in the Super League. He primarily played fullback, centre, wing but had filled in at five-eighth in the past.
