Steve Hetzel is an American professional basketball coach who is an assistant coach for the Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
Hetzel began his career in the NBA as an assistant video coordinator for the San Antonio Spurs during the 2005–2006 season under head coach Gregg Popovich. [1] He later worked as the video coordinator for the Cleveland Cavaliers for three seasons from 2006 to 2009 under head coach Mike Brown. [2]
Hetzel earned his first coaching position with the Detroit Pistons in 2009, spending four seasons as a player development coach until 2013. [3] As a player development coach in Detroit, Hetzel was responsible for creating player progression plans and monitoring player growth. [4]
In 2013, Hetzel became the head coach of the Canton Charge of the NBA G-League, the G-League affiliate of the Cleveland Cavaliers. [5] He replaced D-League coach of the year Alex Jensen, who left to become a development coach for the Utah Jazz. [6] Hetzel served one season as head coach of the Charge leading the team to a 28–22 record in his lone season.
Hetzel earned his first assistant coaching job in the NBA in 2014, being hired by the Charlotte Hornets as an assistant coach under head coach Steve Clifford. [7] He worked with the Hornets until 2018 when he was hired by the Orlando Magic where he worked from 2018 until 2021. [8]
In 2022, Hetzel coached the Portland Trail Blazers summer league team to the 2022 NBA Summer League championship. [9] He was named an assistant coach for the Trail Blazers under head coach Chauncey Billups for the 2021–22 season and spent three seasons in Portland. [10]
On April 21, 2024, it was reported that Hetzel would be joining the Brooklyn Nets as an assistant coach under new head coach Jordi Fernández. [11] The hiring was officially announced by the Nets on May 31, 2024. [12]
Hetzel is a native of Allen Park, Michigan. Hetzel graduated from Michigan State University in 2005. [13] At Michigan State, Hetzel majored in kinesiology and was a student manager for the Michigan State Spartans under head coach Tom Izzo from 2003 to 2005. [14] He is married to his wife Anne and has three children, Aden, Selah, and Jackie.
Steven Hanson Blake is an American professional basketball coach and former player. After winning the 2002 NCAA Championship with Maryland, Blake was selected by the Washington Wizards with the 38th overall pick in the 2003 NBA draft. Over his 13-year NBA career, Blake had stints with the Wizards, Milwaukee Bucks, Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors, Detroit Pistons, and three stints with the Portland Trail Blazers.

Jarrett Matthew Jack is an American professional basketball coach and former player and an assistant coach for the Detroit Pistons of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He attended four high schools in North Carolina, Maryland and Massachusetts before playing collegiately at Georgia Tech. He was selected with the 22nd overall pick in the 2005 NBA draft by the Denver Nuggets, before playing with the Portland Trail Blazers, Indiana Pacers, Toronto Raptors, New Orleans Hornets, Golden State Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers, Brooklyn Nets, New Orleans Pelicans, and New York Knicks.
Jarron Thomas Collins is an American professional basketball coach and former player who is an assistant coach for the New Orleans Pelicans of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was selected in the second round of the 2001 NBA draft by the Utah Jazz, and played 10 seasons in the NBA. He has a twin brother, Jason, who also played in the league.
Lionel Eugene Hollins is an American professional basketball coach and former player who most recently served as an assistant coach for the Houston Rockets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). A point guard, Hollins played for the Portland Trail Blazers, winning an NBA championship in 1977 and named an NBA All-Star in 1978. The Trail Blazers retired his No. 14.
Ime Sunday Udoka is a Nigerian-American professional basketball coach and former player who is the head coach for the Houston Rockets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Born in the United States, he represented the Nigeria national team during his playing career. After retiring as a player, Udoka served as an assistant coach with the San Antonio Spurs, Philadelphia 76ers, and Brooklyn Nets before becoming the head coach of the Boston Celtics, whom he led to the 2022 NBA Finals. After Udoka was suspended for the entire 2022–23 season for engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a Celtics female employee, he was hired by the Rockets in April 2023.

The 1970 NBA expansion draft was the fifth expansion draft of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The draft was held on May 11, 1970, so that the newly founded Buffalo Braves, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Portland Trail Blazers could acquire players for the 1970–71 season. Buffalo, Cleveland, and Portland were awarded the expansion teams on February 6, 1970. Houston was also awarded a franchise, but the group backing the team was unable to come up with the US$750,000 down payment on the US$3.7 million entrance fee that was required before the 1970 NBA draft. The Braves later underwent two relocations, moving to San Diego in 1978 and changing their name from the Braves to the Clippers, and then relocating to Los Angeles in 1984. They are currently known as the Los Angeles Clippers.

Atkinson was born in Huntington, New York and played college basketball for University of Richmond leading the Spiders to a Sweet Sixteen berth in the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament in 1988.
