Jay Hernandez is an American professional basketball coach and former player who is an assistant coach for the Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
Hernandez attended St. Dominic High School in Oyster Bay, New York. [1]
Hernandez was first recruited by New Hampshire, where he played college basketball for one season in 1996–1997. [2]
After his lone season with New Hampshire, Hernandez transferred to Hofstra. He played three seasons with the Pride from 1998 to 2001 and was a starter during all three seasons. In 2000 and 2001, Hernandez helped Hofstra to back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances.
While in college, Hernandez spent his offseasons away from school playing professional basketball in Puerto Rico. Hernandez played three seasons professionally for the Guaynabo Mets, Aibonito Polluelos, and Cayey Toritos in the Baloncesto Superior Nacional league in Puerto Rico. [3]
In 2014, Hernandez was named as a player development coach for the Orlando Magic. [4]
In 2016, Hernandez was named as an assistant coach for the Magic under new head coach Frank Vogel. [5]
In 2018, Hernandez was hired as an assistant coach with the Charlotte Hornets under head coach James Borrego. [6]
In 2021, Hernandez also coached the Greensboro Swarm, the NBA G-League affiliate of the Hornets.
In 2023, Hernandez was named as an assistant coach for the Brooklyn Nets. [7]
Hernandez is a native of Long Island, New York. Hernandez graduated from Hofstra University with a MBA in marketing and management. He is married to his wife Allison with whom he has three children, McKayla, Michael, and Morgan. [8]

Shabazz Bozie Napier is a Puerto Rican professional basketball player who last played for Olimpia Milano of the Italian Lega Basket Serie A (LBA) and the EuroLeague. He played college basketball for the Connecticut Huskies, and won two national championships in 2011 and 2014. Napier was a key player for the Huskies' 2010–11 NCAA championship team, as he made the Big East All Rookie team. Following his junior season, Napier was selected to the All-Big East first team.

The history of the National Basketball Association's Charlotte Hornets dates to 1985 when founder George Shinn first thought of bringing professional basketball to Charlotte, North Carolina. The Hornets commenced play as an expansion team in 1988. After fourteen seasons under its original ownership, the franchise suspended operations in 2002 when Shinn transferred the basketball organization under his control to a new franchise in New Orleans. The Charlotte franchise was subsequently acquired, reactivated and renamed the Bobcats by Robert L. Johnson. After restocking its roster through their second expansion draft, the team resumed play in 2004. Johnson sold controlling interest to Hall of Fame legend and North Carolinian native Michael Jordan in 2010. Jordan, who restored the club's original name in 2014, sold the team to group led by Rick Schnall and Gabe Plotkin in 2023. The franchise has reached the postseason twelve times and made ten playoff appearances, although as of 2024 they are the oldest club in all of North American major professional sports to have never won a division championship.
The Greensboro Swarm are an American basketball team of the NBA G League based in Greensboro, North Carolina, and are affiliated with the Charlotte Hornets. The Swarm play their home games at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex. The team became the eleventh Development League team to be owned by an NBA team when it was announced in 2015.
Edmond Byron Sumner is an American professional basketball player who last played for Žalgiris Kaunas of the Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL) and the EuroLeague. A point guard, he played college basketball for the Xavier Musketeers and after averaging 15.0 points per game as a junior he participated in the 2017 NBA draft.
