Background

St. Dominic High School was established on September 10, 1928, by Rev. Charles J. Canivan, following the establishment of St. Dominic Elementary School September 8, 1924.

Campus

The campus consists of four buildings: Canivan and Marian Hall, the New Science building, and a gymnasium complete with three basketball courts. Classrooms are located in Canivan and Marian Hall, while the cafeteria and auditorium are located in Canivan Hall. Outdoor athletic fields with an estimated value of US$23,000,000 were donated by Charles Wang and consist of baseball, softball, lacrosse, and soccer fields, plus tennis courts nearby in Muttontown. The school also shares the street with St. Dominic's Church and a smaller chapel. [2]

The Northern Indiana Conference (NIC) is a high school athletic conference that was founded in 1927 and spanned from as far west as Hammond and Gary to South Bend/Mishawaka and Elkhart to the east and south to Plymouth. Since its start in 1927, a total of 32 separate schools have at one time called the NIC home. From its inception until 1963, the conference had been divided into East and West divisions. The West Division left to form the Northwestern Conference in 1963. With membership dwindling to 7 members by the 1970s, the conference added former members of the Northern Indiana Valley Conference to its ranks. Currently, every former NIVC member is now a part of the NIC except for South Bend Jackson, which closed in 1973, and South Bend LaSalle, which joined the NIC in 1977, but closed in 2001.

Interscholastic athletics at Baltimore City College date back over 120 years. Though varsity sports were not formally organized until 1895, interscholastic athletics became a fixture at the school earlier in the 19th century. In the late-1890s, City competed in the Maryland Intercollegiate Football Association (MIFA), a nine-member league consisting of colleges in Washington, D.C., and Maryland. City College was the lone secondary school among MIFA membership.
