Steven W. Kraus (born July 28,1959) was the Representative of the 89th district of the Ohio House of Representatives until his felony conviction on July 27,2015. He attended the Community College of the Air Force of Air University before receiving his bachelor's in engineering from Troy University.[ citation needed ]
Kraus' election was also significant due to his defeat of Chris Redfern,a long-serving state representative and the Chairman of the Ohio Democratic Party at the time. [1] After winning election,but prior to his swearing in,Kraus was indicted on felony charges of burglary,breaking and entering,and theft. [2] Kraus was convicted of a fifth-degree felony on July 27,2015,and,according to the Ohio Revised Code,immediately relinquished his seat as a result of his conviction. [3]
Kraus wrote a book published in February 2018,Checkmate:One Man's Fight Against Political Corruption.
On December 19,2023,Kraus filed his declaration of candidacy for Ohio House with the Erie County,Ohio board of elections to run for state representative and an objection was filed shortly after due to his felony conviction,which,by then had been sealed. [4]
On January 29,2024,the Ohio Supreme Court unanimously ruled Kraus could run and hold office again as an Ohio House member after Erie County election officials placed Kraus’name on the March 19,2024 primary-election ballot because his theft conviction was irrelevant because the law only disqualifies him from certain kinds of public office,mainly office that grants him “substantial management or control”over state property. Corrine Brown is an American former politician and felon who served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Florida from 1993 to 2017. She is a member of the Democratic Party. H. William DeWeese is an American politician who is a former member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. A member of the Democratic Party, DeWeese served as the 135th Speaker of the Pennsylvania House from 1993 to 1994. After five years of investigation by Republican State Attorney General Tom Corbett, he was indicted in December 2009 on six charges of conflict of interest, theft and criminal conspiracy on accusations that two members of his staff used state resources to campaign for political office. The trial began January 23, 2010. He was re-elected in 2010 despite the charges, but was convicted of five of the six felony charges on February 6, 2012.
Thomas W. Noe is a former Ohio Republican party fundraiser and activist, guilty of money laundering for the 2004 Bush-Cheney campaign and of theft and corruption in the "Coingate scandal". A longtime resident of Toledo, Ohio, Noe and his wife, Bernadette, held several party positions and minor offices within the government of Ohio. He was also a prominent Republican fundraiser and served as chairman of the 2004 Bush-Cheney election campaign in Northwest Ohio and chairman of the Lucas County Republican party. Noe was also an avid coin dealer and owned various coin dealing companies, such as Capital Coin and Vintage Coins & Collectibles, as well as their subsidiaries.
