Stimulated Records was founded by Dante Ross, an A&R representative and record producer, who was mentioned by De La Soul on its first album, and was the original architect of Elektra Records' hip hop roster of the early to mid 1990s. The label released the likes of Sadat X, Camp Lo, and Cella Dwellas. In 2023, Ross partnered with Roc Nation's distribution company Equity Distribution to relaunch Stimulated Music.

The State of New York vs. Derek Murphy is the first extended play by American rapper Sadat X. It was recorded in D&D Studios and released on September 19, 2000 via Dante Ross's Stimulated Records in affiliation with Loud Records. Audio production of the album was handled by Diamond D, Minnesota, Dart La, and A Kid Called Roots. It features guest appearances from the Money Boss Players, who are here credited as Hy Tymes. The EP spawned a single "Ka-Ching", which peaked at number 36 on the Hot Rap Songs. It is second solo effort of Brand Nubian's Sadat X, following his 1996's full-length Wild Cowboys LP.

Duppy Gun is a dancehall record label run by Cameron Stallones of Sun Araw and M. Geddes Gengras, based in Los Angeles, California. The label began in Portmore, Jamaica in 2011 after a collaboration between Stallones, Gengras and Jamaican vocal group The Congos on the album Icon Give Thank for RVNG Intl. Duppy Gun releases feature collaborations from American experimental electronic artists and Jamaican singers. Past albums have included production from Peaking Lights, Sun Araw, M. Geddes Gengras, Matthewdavid and vocals by I Jahbar, Lukani, Fyah Flames, G sudden, and Dayone. Since their second release, the 12" vinyl Spy / Up Wit You, the label has been distributed by Los Angeles' Stones Throw Records. The 2014 double LP Duppy Gun Productions Vol 1 featured all of their previous released tracks as well as new music and featured vocalists "from more established roots singers to fisherman to very young neighborhood kids."
