Telemark[ˈtêːləmɑrk](listen) is a traditional region, a former county, and a current electoral district in southern Norway. In 2020, Telemark merged with the former county of Vestfold to form the county of Vestfold og Telemark. Telemark borders the traditional regions and former counties of Vestfold, Buskerud, Hordaland, Rogaland and Aust-Agder.
Hjartdal is a municipality in Telemark in the county of Vestfold og Telemark in Norway. It is part of the traditional regions of Upper Telemark and Øst-Telemark. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Sauland. The municipality of Hierdal was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838. It consists of three parish'es: Hjartdal, Sauland, and Tuddal.
Kviteseid is a municipality in Telemark in the county of Vestfold og Telemark in Norway. It is part of the traditional region of Upper Telemark and Vest-Telemark. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Kviteseid. The parish of Hvideseid was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838. Kviteseid Seminar was the first public school which started in 1819 and was in operation until 1889. Kviteseid Library was founded in 1895. The library was first based on a book collection from Kviteseid Seminar.
The Paus family is a Norwegian family that first appeared as members of the elite of 16th-century Oslo and that for centuries belonged to Norway's "aristocracy of officials" as priests of the state church, judges and other higher government officials, especially in Upper Telemark. The family is particularly known for its close association with Henrik Ibsen.
Flåvatn is a lake in the municipalities of Nome and Kviteseid in Vestfold og Telemark county, Norway. The lake is the easternmost of the connected lakes Bandak, Kviteseidvatnet and Flåvatn, which are all part of the Telemark Canal. The lake's area is 20.1 km². The outlet is via the river Straumen (Eidselva) to Norsjø.
Norwegian National Road 41 is a Norwegian national road that runs through Vestfold og Telemark and Agder counties in Norway. The road runs between the village of Brunkeberg in Kviteseid municipality in Vestfold og Telemark county in the north and Timenes in Hånes in the city of Kristiansand in Agder county in the south. The 172.9-kilometre (107.4 mi) long road connects to the European route E134 highway in the north and to the European route E18 highway in the south. The road runs for 101.5 kilometres (63.1 mi) in Agder county and 71.4 kilometres (44.4 mi) in Vestfold og Telemark county. The southern half of the road runs along the river Tovdalselva and the lake Herefossfjorden, and it is located in a fault zone called the Kristiansand-Porsgrunn grabenen.
Sir Hans Paus was a Norwegian priest and poet. He was parish priest in Kviteseid from 1683 until his death. A popular man in his parish who learned the local dialect, he is noted for being the first to write poetry in dialect in Norway. His poem Stolt Anne, written in the Kviteseid dialect, became a popular folk song in Telemark. 12 verses were included in Norske Folkeviser (1853) by Magnus Brostrup Landstad and Henrik Ibsen, a relative of Hans Paus, paraphrased the poem in the drama Lady Inger of Ostrat. The poem honored Anne Clausdatter, the owner of Borgestad Manor and a relative of Paus. She rewarded him with an agricultural property (Bukkøy) for it. He owned several agricultural properties in Kviteseid.

Brunkeberg is a village in the municipality of Kviteseid in Vestfold og Telemark county, Norway. European route E134 which runs from Drammen to Haugesund passes through the village. Brunkeberg Church is a white cruciform church from 1790.
Upper Telemark is a traditional district in Vestfold og Telemark county in Norway. The area includes the inland areas of Telemark. More than two-thirds of the total area of Telemark—more than 10,000 square kilometres (3,900 sq mi)—belong to the traditional region of Upper Telemark. Conversely, the area of "Lower" Telemark refers to the more densely populated, flatter coastal area of Grenland and traditionally also includes Central Telemark. Upper Telemark has a varied and often scenic landscape, with many hills, mountains, valleys and lakes.
Sir Peter Paulson Paus, also rendered as Peder Povelsson Paus, was a Norwegian high-ranking cleric who served as the provost of Upper Telemark from 1633 until his death. He is known through a loving poem in Latin written by his son Paul Peterson Paus in his memory in 1653, In memoriam Domini Petri Pavli. His descendants include the playwright Henrik Ibsen.
Old Kviteseid Church is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Kviteseid Municipality in Vestfold og Telemark county, Norway. It is located about 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) north of the village of Eidstod. It is one of the churches in the Kviteseid parish which is part of the Øvre Telemark prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The white, stone church was built in a long church design around the year 1260 using plans drawn up by an unknown architect. The church seats about 150 people. This is among the better preserved stone churches in Telemark.

Sir Paul Peterson Paus, also rendered as Povel Pedersson Paus, was a Norwegian cleric and a signatory of the 1661 Sovereignty Act, the new constitution of Denmark-Norway, as one of the 87 representatives of the Norwegian clerical estate, one of the two privileged estates of the realm in Denmark-Norway. He is known as the author of the 1653 poem "In memoriam Domini Petri Pavli", a loving poem in Latin in memory of his father Peter Paulson Paus. Paul Paus was reputed to be a learned and contemplative personality. His descendants include the playwright Henrik Ibsen.
Henrik Johan Paus was a Norwegian lawyer, government official and the uncle of playwright Henrik Ibsen. He was acting bailiff of Lower Telemark and Bamble in 1818, a civil servant with the Ministry of Finance 1819–1823, deputy governor of Hedemarken 1823–1826, sheriff of Hof 1826–1830, attorney-at-law and acting judge in Hedemarken 1830–1843, bailiff of Østerdalen 1843–1858 and bailiff of Øvre Romerike 1858–1860.
Telemark District Court is a district court located in Vestfold og Telemark county, Norway. This court is based at three different courthouses which are located in Skien, Notodden, and Kviteseid. The court serves the western part of the county which includes 17 municipalities. The court in Skien accepts cases from the municipalities of Bamble, Drangedal, Kragerø, Nome, Porsgrunn, Siljan, and Skien. The court in Kviteseid accepts cases from the municipalities of Fyresdal, Kviteseid, Nissedal, Tokke, Seljord, and Vinje. The court in Notodden accepts cases from the municipalities of Hjartdal, Notodden, Tinn, and Midt-Telemark. The court is subordinate to the Agder Court of Appeal.
Olaf Hegland (1885–1939) was a Norwegian civil servant and lawyer. He served as the County Governor of Telemark county from 1933 until 1938.
