Minnie's new attitude towards men backfired when it led her into a brief foray into doing things that bore an uncanny similarity to prostitution and into a spot of bother, Nick Harrison came to her rescue and the two formed a brief relationship. Nick met Angela (Ange) Weaver, Rangi's ambulance partner, and began a relationship which resulted in a pregnancy. After some initial doubts, they committed themselves to each other and the baby. This happiness was short-lived as Ange learnt she had cancer with the option of treatment or the child. Ange choose to have the baby and gave birth at 28 weeks, sadly it was too late to treat the cancer, and died a few months later.

Another earthquake struck which caused the clinic to sink due to soil liquefaction. The clinic shifts to a bigger premises nearby – (in reality this storyline was necessitated by the movement of the Shortland Street studios from Browns Bay to Henderson).

Dean and Moira married in early 2000. Dean's daughter Erin came to live with them, and initially did not get along with her stepbrother Blake, the two soon formed a friendship. Erin fell for her teacher and was sent to live with her mother, much to Blake's display. Victor Kahu arrived at the clinic began a secret relationship with Sofia. Moira's nephew Eamon came to live with the family and pursued Kate and was enraged to learn of a relationship with Victor for whom he dumped Sofia. Eamon took revenge and spiked Kate's drink went they went out. Kate was found by Fergus in a dishevelled state with no memories of the previous evening. Eamon claimed he and Kate had had a one-night stand. A drug test taken by Al revealed that Kate had been drugged and with this knowledge Kate realised Eamon had raped her. Eamon was charged with rape but Moira believed he was innocent while husband Dean believed in his guilt. The taking of sides by Moira and Dean drove them apart and eventually separated. Eamon spread rumours about Fergus using ecstasy which Waverley believed which was eventually discounted by Minnie Crozier who discovered the lie. Waverley and Fergus reconciled and got engaged. Kate's own revenge against Eamon saw him drugged and standing on a clifftop and forced to confess to her rape.
