Stuart Ryan Ball, CBE, FRHistS, is a political historian who retired in 2016 as professor of Modern British History at the University of Leicester, having taught there for 37 years; he is now emeritus professor of Modern History there. He specialises in the history of the Conservative Party.
Stuart Ryan Ball [1] left Eltham College in 1974 to study history at the University of St Andrews. In 1979, he was appointed to a lectureship at the University of Leicester, and taught there until his retirement in 2016, by which time he was professor of Modern British History. In 1990, he was elected Fellow of the Royal Historical Society. As of 2017, he is Historical Consultant to the Conservative Party Archive at the Bodleian Library, sits on the editorial committee of the journal Parliamentary History , and is treasurer of the Parliamentary History Trust. In the 2018 New Year Honours, Ball was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for service to political history. [1] He has been a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society (FRHistS) since 1990. [2]
Ball's research has focused on British politics between the two world wars, with special focus on the Conservative Party. He has also studied the history of parliament in modern Britain. His books include: [2]

Sir Anthony Francis Seldon is a British educator and contemporary historian. As an author, he is known in part for his political biographies of consecutive British Prime Ministers, John Major, Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, David Cameron, Theresa May and Boris Johnson. He was the 13th master (headmaster) of Wellington College, one of Britain's co-educational independent boarding schools, and is the current Head Master of Epsom College. Sean Joseph Connolly, is an Irish historian, initially specialising in the social history of Irish Catholicism in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, but more recently on post-Reformation and early modern Ireland and modern Belfast. From 1996 to 2017, he was professor of Irish history at Queen's University Belfast, and has been emeritus professor there since 2017. After completing his undergraduate degree at University College, Dublin, and his doctorate at the University of Ulster, Connolly worked as an archivist at Public Record Office of Ireland from 1977 to 1980, before spending a year lecturing in history at St Patrick's College, Dublin; he returned to the University of Ulster in 1981 as a lecturer and became a reader there in 1990. Connolly was also Vice-President of the Royal Historical Society from 2014 to 2016, and was twice editor of the journal Irish Economic and Social History.
