Sudhir Patwardhan is an Indian contemporary painter and a practising radiologist.

Early life

Patwardhan was born in Pune, Maharashtra in 1949. In 1972 he graduated in Medicine from the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune. He moved to Mumbai in 1973 and worked as a radiologist in Thane from 1975 to 2005. [1]

Career

After 2005 he became a full-time artist. The city-scape features prominently in his canvases, and reflect the agonies of the urban middle class and poor. [2] Patwardhan’s works are in the permanent collection of National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi and Mumbai; Roopankar Museum, Bhopal; Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, New Delhi, Jehangir Nicholson Art Foundation, Mumbai; the Peabody Essex Museum, Salem, Massachusetts and other prominent private and public collections.

Akbar Padamsee Indian artist (1928–2020)

Akbar Padamsee was an Indian artist and painter, considered one of the pioneers in modern Indian painting along with S.H. Raza, F.N. Souza and M.F. Husain. Over the years he also worked with various mediums from oil painting, plastic emulsion, water colour, sculpture, printmaking, to computer graphics, and photography. In addition, he worked as a film maker, sculptor, photographer, engraver, and lithographer. Today his paintings are among the most valued by modern Indian artists. His painting Reclining Nude was sold for US$1,426,500 at Sotheby's in New York on 25 March 2011.

Prafulla Dahanukar Indian painter


Prafulla Dahanukar was an Indian painter, a leader in modern Indian art who also helped and influenced many young artists in India.

Pakhal Tirumal Reddy, known as P T Reddy, was an Indian artist. He was the fifth child born to Ram Reddy and Ramanammachild at Annaram village, Karimnagar district, Telangana, India. He received his diploma in painting from J. J. School of Art, Bombay in 1939. He married Yashoda Reddy on 9 May 1947, and she completed a master's of art and Ph.D. degrees and authored over 22 compilations and novels.

Bose Krishnamachari

Bose Krishnamachari is an internationally acclaimed Malayali painter and Artist-Curator based in Mumbai, India. He was born in 1963 at Magattukara village near Angamaly, Kerala. He had done his early schooling at GHSS Puliyanam. He took his BFA from Sir J J School of Art, Mumbai in (1991), and then completed his MFA from Goldsmiths College, University of London in(2000). He was a recipient of the award of the Kerala Lalita Kala Akademi(1985), British Council travel award (1993), Mid America Arts Alliance Award(1996), Chales Wallace India Trust Award (1999–2000), Life Time Fellowship Award- Kerala Lalita Kala Academy and was first runner up for the Bose Pacia Prize for Modern Art, New York, 2001. His work comprises vivid abstract paintings, figurative drawings, sculpture, photography, multimedia installations and architecture. Since 1985 he lives and works in Mumbai. Bose is the founder member and President of Kochi Biennale Foundation and Biennale Director of international exhibition of contemporary art, Kochi-Muziris Biennale.

R. Siva Kumar Contemporary Indian art historian art-critic and curator

Raman Siva Kumar, well known as R. Siva Kumar, is an Indian contemporary art historian, art critic, and curator. R. Siva Kumar's major research has been in the area of early Indian modernism with special focus on the Santiniketan School. He has written several important books, lectured widely on modern Indian art and contributed articles to prestigious international projects such as the Art Journal, Grove Art Online or The Dictionary of Art, Oxford University Press.

Anita Dube is an Indian contemporary artist whose work has been widely exhibited in India, including at the Lakeeren Gallery (Mumbai); Kiran Nadar Museum of Art ; the Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum (Mumbai); Gallery Nature Morte, KHOJ International Artists' Association.

Prabhakar Barwe was a pioneer of Modern Indian painting. He was active in Mumbai, India from the 1959 until his death in 1995. Influenced by the esoteric tradition of Tantric painting, Barwe along with G. R. Santosh, P. T. Reddy, K.C.S. Paniker, Biren De, Om Prakash, K. V. Haridasan, Prafulla Mohanti and Mahirwan Mamtani was considered part of the modernist movement Neo-Tantra.
