Suzanne Eleanor Chetwin CNZM is a New Zealand journalist and consumer rights advocate. She was the editor of several newspapers, including the Sunday News , the Sunday Star-Times and the Herald on Sunday , and the chief executive of Consumer New Zealand for thirteen years. In 2021 Chetwin was appointed a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to consumer rights.
Chetwin began her working life as a journalist, and in 1994 was editor of the Sunday News, and then from 1998 to 2003, the editor of the Sunday Star-Times. She was the founding editor of the Herald on Sunday, from 2003 until 2005. Chetwin was the Chief Executive of the consumer advice service Consumer New Zealand from 2007 until 2020. [1] During her time at Consumer NZ, Chetwin led work on country of origin labelling, unfair terms, mandatory standards for sunscreens, and consumer protections related to door sales. [2] [1] She resigned from Consumer in 2020 to complete her law degree. [2]
In early 2024 it was announced that Chetwin would lead a new lobby group, called Grocery Action Group, aimed at persuading supermarkets to lower grocery prices, after the Commerce Commission determined the sector has excessive profits. [3] [4] [5] [6]
Chetwin is a board member of the Financial Markets Authority, and Food Standards Australia New Zealand. [1] [7]
Chetwin was Chair of the Government review of drug buying agency Pharmac, chair of the InternetNZ Policy Review Advisory Panel, and chaired the independent consumer panel giving advice to Chorus. [7] [8] [9]
In the 2021 New Years Honours, Chetwin was appointed a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to consumer rights. [1]

In 2018, was the recipient of an Icon Award from the Arts Foundation of New Zealand, limited to 20 living art-makers. In December 2024, he was appointed a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit, for services to Māori art.
Kate Sylvester is a New Zealand fashion designer known for combining sportswear, lingerie and traditional tailoring. Her designs are often influenced by books or art, and the fashion of the 1930s and 1950s. Former Fashion Quarterly editor Fiona Hawtin has called Sylvester one of the stalwarts of New Zealand fashion. Metro Magazine named her one of New Zealand's top five designers. In 2019 Sylvester co-founded Mindful Fashion, a clothing and textiles collective. In 2025 Sylvester was appointed an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to the fashion industry.
Vanessa Shona Beavis is a New Zealand anaesthesiologist and honorary senior lecturer of the University of Auckland. From 2020 to 2022, Beavis was president of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA).
Allyn Sue Danzeisen, known as Aliya Danzeisen, is an American–New Zealand lawyer, teacher and the national coordinator of the Islamic Women's Council. Danzeisen was appointed an Honorary Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2024 for services to the Muslim community and women.
Fleur De Lyse Ross Sullivan is a New Zealand restaurateur and author. In 1999, Sullivan was appointed an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit, for services to tourism, and in 2013 she was promoted to Companion of the same order, for services to the food industry.
Nicola Jane Denholm is a New Zealand photographer and sexual safety advocate. She has worked internationally to highlight social issues such as child imprisonment, sexual slavery, maternal health, and the global refugee crisis. She successfully lobbied for legislative change on female genital mutilation in New Zealand. In 2021 Denholm was appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to humanitarian advocacy and photography.
Ruth Lilian Spearing is a New Zealand haematologist, and researches blood cancer. In 2023 Spearing was appointed a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to haematology.
Miriam Rose Dean is a New Zealand King's Counsel and company director. In 2011 Dean was appointed a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to the law and business. She was awarded Distinguished Alumna status at the University of Waikato.
Barbara Frances Ala'alatoa is a New Zealand–Samoan school principal, and was chair of the Education Council of Aotearoa New Zealand from 2015 to 2019. In 2014 Ala'alatoa was appointed as a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to education. In 2020 she was promoted to an Officer of the Order, again for services to education.
