Sukumar Pradhan (born October 1948 - October 2021) also known as S.K. Pradhan was a member of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly for two consecutive terms from 1984 to 1994 representing Central Pendam constituency from Sikkim Sangram Parishad. [1] [2]
Eldest son of Sikkimese pro democracy leader Nahakul Pradhan and Naina Kumari Pradhan. He was born into the erstwhile aristocratic Newar Taksari family. His paternal grandmother Kanti Pradhan was the granddaughter of Taksari Chandrabir Maskey of Pakyong,an erstwhile Sikkimese feudal lord of many estates in Sikkim.
He was elected from Central Pendam constituency for two consecutive terms(1984 to 1994). In Government of Sikkim,he held several positions as chairman of Sikkim Livestock Development Corporation,chairman of Sikkim Housing and Development Board and Sikkim Distilleries.
Later he joined Sikkim Democratic Front and served in various capacities as treasurer,general secretary and senior vice president.
He died in Siliguri on 28 October 2021 at the age of 73. [3]
Pawan Kumar Chamling is an Indian politician and writer serving as the 5th Chief Minister of Sikkim from 1994 to 2019. He was the longest serving Chief Minister of Sikkim and India,surpassing Jyoti Basu. Chamling is the Founding President of the Sikkim Democratic Front. He also served as the Leader of the opposition,Sikkim Legislative Assembly from 2019 to 2019. He represents the Namchi-Singhithang constituency in the Sikkim Legislative Assembly since 2019 and the Damthang constituency from 1985 to 1994. Prior to establishing the Sikkim Democratic Front,Chamling served as Minister for Industries,Information and Public Relations from 1989 to 1992 in Nar Bahadur Bhandari's cabinet.
V Rama Rao served as Governor of Sikkim from 2002–2007. He started his political career in 1956 when he joined Jana Sangh and went on to become a National Leader of Bharatiya Janata Party and was elected to Andhra Pradesh State Legislative Council from Hyderabad Graduates' Constituency for four consecutive terms in 1966,1972,1978 and 1984. He served as a Party Floor Leader in council during his last term.
Kazi Lhendup Dorjee,also spelled Lhendup Dorji or Lhendup Dorji Khangsarpa was an Indian politician who was the 1st chief minister of Sikkim from 1975 to 1979 after its union with India. He was the 1st Prime Minister of Sikkim from 1974 to 1975. He also served as the Executive Council of Sikkim from 1967 to 1970. He was a member of INC after 1975 and Sikkim National Congress before 1975.

On 10 April 2023 he resigned from Trinamool Congress and also resigned from Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament post under the ticket of Trinamool Congress. He is married to Rachel Faleiro and is the father of two sons,Lenin,Rabindra and only daughter Rania.

Taksaris of Sikkim were owners of minting houses,traders,landed class and their families in the former Kingdom of Sikkim. There were six families - mostly Newars - minting coins for the erstwhile Himalayan kingdom. In the period of British influence,Chogyal of Sikkim gave these families large land estates as Thikadars,a system of hereditary leesee landlords with judicial and administrative power over their respective estates.
Kazis and Thikadars of Sikkim also known as Ilakadars were the hereditary feudal lords and the ruling class in former Kingdom of Sikkim. They had administrative and judicial powers within their respective land estates. This system existed since the establishment of the Namgyal dynasty and was further institutionalised under the period of British influence in Sikkim.
