Summer Discovery, officially known as Musiker Discovery Programs is an American company that runs pre-college and middle school enrichment programs worldwide. [1] [2] The company is headquartered in Roslyn, New York.
Summer Discovery was founded in 1966 when Mike and Judy Musiker founded Musiker Student Tours. Their sons, Bob and Jimmy Musiker, joined the organization in the early 1980s and assumed ownership in 1992. That year, the organization changed names from Musiker Student Tours, Inc. to Musiker Discovery Programs, Inc. to reflect the multiple offerings available.
The first Summer Discovery program began at UCLA in 1986. In 2009, Summer Discovery formed a partnership with Jeter's Leaders, awarding scholarships to attend Summer Discovery programs at colleges and universities in the U.S. [3]
In 2010, Summer Discovery partnered with Dream Careers to acquire Career Explorations and form Discovery Internships LLC. [4] In 2020, Summer Discovery ceased offering its Discovery Internships program to focus more on pre-college programs worldwide.
In 2018, Summer Discovery was acquired by Verlinvest, which is now the majority owner of Summer Discovery. [5]
In 2020, Summer Discovery launched Summer Discovery Online in response to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic. This program partners with universities to provide virtual pre-college courses. [6]
In 2020, Summer Discovery acquired Summer Institute for the Gifted (SIG). [7] Through Summer Institute for the Gifted (SIG), Summer Discovery provides academic summer programs for gifted, academically talented, and creative students ages 5–17.
Summer Discovery Educational Programs began in 1986 on the campus of UCLA. Two years later Summer Discovery at Cambridge University in England was introduced. Since 1989, the campuses of the University of Michigan, Georgetown University, University of California at Santa Barbara, University of Colorado Boulder, the University of Texas at Austin, University of Pennsylvania, the Wharton School, Hult International Business School in London, Istituto Lorenzo de’Medici in Italy, Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China, and Yale-NUS College in Singapore have been a part of the Summer Discovery campus options.
The Princeton Review College Discovery Experience is designed to help students choose the college that is best suited for them. [8] During the 2 week summer program, students develop their knowledge of various schools through campus visits and tours run by the school’s admissions office, improve their SAT scores through the Princeton Review SAT Preparation course, and create a personal college admissions profile which includes an application essay. Summer Discovery offers 2 – 6 week pre-college enrichment programs for high school students. [10] [11] Students live in a university residence hall while taking courses taught by university professors. The programs provide access to over 300 courses. Summer Discovery also offers commuter options at select universities.
Summer Discovery Online partners with universities to provide virtual pre-college courses. Students also have access to a virtual community throughout the program.
In addition, Summer Discovery offers gifted academic summer programs through Summer Institute for the Gifted (SIG). [12]

The Duke University Talent Identification Program was a gifted education program based at Duke University. Founded in 1980 as one of the first pre-collegiate studies programs offered by an American university, the program aimed to identify gifted students in grades four through twelve and provide advanced educational opportunities, as well as social and emotional support. The Duke TIP program permanently ended in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Education Program for Gifted Youth (EPGY) at Stanford University was a loose collection of gifted education programs formerly located within Stanford Pre-Collegiate Studies program. EPGY included distance and residential summer courses for students of all ages. Many of the courses were distance learning, meaning that courses were taught remotely via the Internet, rather than in the traditional classroom setting. Courses targeted students from elementary school up to advanced college graduate. Subjects offered included: Mathematics, English, Humanities, Physics, and Computer Science. Stanford Pre-Collegiate Studies is similar to the Center for Talented Youth at the Johns Hopkins University in terms of certain objectives. The EPGY courses themselves were offered by a number of institutions including Stanford and Johns Hopkins.

University of Advancing Technology (UAT) is a private for-profit university in Tempe, Arizona. Founded in 1983, UAT integrates technology into its general education requirements. The Gifted Education Research Resource Institute (GERI) was founded by John F. Feldhusen in 1977 and is situated in the College of Education, Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. GERI runs enrichment programs for talented youth, graduate programs for future scholars and leaders, professional development and coursework for educators, and ongoing research on the psychology of giftedness, creativity, and talent development. GERI faculty and staff work with P-12 educators in developing and improving services for gifted, creative, and talented children, as well as training school teachers and administrators in gifted education. In addition, GERI has developed several programs for talented youth. The Super Saturday program, a six-week enrichment program, was created in the spring of 1976. In 1977, GERI began Summer Residential Camps, aimed at providing a preview of college life to talented students.
The Hutton Honors College is the honors program of Indiana University Bloomington. The college was founded as the University Honors Division in 1966 with Warner Chapman as its director. It was renamed the Hutton Honors College in the fall of 2004 in honor of IU alumnus Edward L. Hutton. Technion International (TI) is the international department of Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, which was ranked as the best university in Israel and the Middle East. Located in Haifa, Israel, Technion International was founded in 2009 in order to oversee Technion’s international academic endeavors. Technion International offers a variety of programs, including "full undergraduate and graduate programs, postdoctoral fellowships, study abroad programs, summer programs for gifted teens, research internships as well as entrepreneurship programs". As of 2018, "Technion has academic collaboration agreements with 232 universities in 41 countries and 36 medical school agreements".
