Suneet Singh Tuli is the co-founder of DataWind. He was born in 1968 to Lakhvir Singh, the head of an entrepreneur, Sikh family. [1] [2] He graduated from Toronto University in 1990 in Applied Sciences in Engineering. [3] While being student he started working In his brother Raja Tuli's entrepreneurial firm, Widekom. [4] He started work with the objective of developing sales of large size fax machines. [5] He got large size fax machines recorded in Guinness book of world records. [4] [5] By getting boosting sale of 600 machInes in six months at Can $20000 ; Tuli brothers turned into millionaires. [1]

In his second innovative venture, he started creating battery operated handheld printers and hand held scanners under the name of the DocuPort Company. [2] These two companies were among first formed by people of Indian origin in making public offerings on NASDAQ. [2] Most recently, Datawind's Aakash/Ubislate tablets have attracted worldwide attention due to its affordable price to weaker sections of world's population for empowering them with computational and internet access.   1. Suneet Singh Tuli has been recognised by Forbes Magazine in its 2012 Impact 15 list as a Class Room Revolutionary [7]
  2. Ban Ki-moon Secretary General of United Nations, while launching his product Aakash 2 tablet spoke about it being great enabler to transform people's lives, in educating and empowering poor with internet and computing access. [8] [9]
  3. In 2012, he and his brother received a technology achievement award from the Indo-Canadian Chamber of Commerce. [10]
  4. Chief Khalsa Dewan honoured him on 65th and 66th World Sikh educational conference [11] [12] in 2014, 2016 consecutively and in 2012 he has been recognised as Enterpreuner of the Year at World Sikh awards. [13]

He is credited to have played a vital role in the Kenyan Freedom Struggle and he, along with other politicians, supplied the Mau Mau Rebels with arms and ammunition. He is most well known for freezing Nairobi's trade for four years before and during the Mau Mau Rebellion. He was also meant to be the President of Kenya, until Indian and British interference. Narinder Singh Kapany was an Indian-American physicist best known for his work on fiber optics. Kapany is a pioneer in the field of fiber optics, and known for coining and popularising the term. Aakash a.k.a. Ubislate 7+, is an Android-based tablet computer promoted by the Government of India as part of an initiative to link 25,000 colleges and 400 universities in an e-learning program. It was produced by the British-Canadian company DataWind, and manufactured by the company, at a production center in Hyderabad. The tablet was officially launched as the Aakash in New Delhi on 5 October 2011. The Indian Ministry of Human Resource Development announced an upgraded second-generation model called Aakash 2 in April 2012.

In an announcement in March 2012, the Telecom Minister, Mr. Kapil Sibal, who was also in charge of Ministry of Human Resources and Development had announced that DoT had cleared the proposal to distribute 50 lakh units of tablet PCs to students. It is the follow-up to the Aakash tablet.

Aakash, or Ubislate 7, is a series of low-cost tablet computers produced by DataWind, all of which use the Android operating system.
