Sunil Kumar Sharma is an Indian politician from Kishtwar area of Jammu and Kashmir. He is the member of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Sharma was a member of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly from the Kishtwar constituency in Kishtwar District. Before 2018,he was Minister of State for Transport (Independent charge),Revenue,Public Works (Roads &Buildings),Rural Development &Panchayati Raj,Agriculture Production,YSS in Government of Jammu and Kashmir under Mehbooba Mufti. He was recently upgraded to cabinet ministry PDD department in Jammu and Kashmir government.

Kishtwar is a town,municipality and administrative headquarter of the Kishtwar District in the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The district was carved out of the Doda district in 2007. and is located in the Jammu division. The town of Kishtwar is situated at a distance of 211.5 km (131.4 mi) from the winter capital of Jammu. A large ground locally called as Chowgan ground is located in the heart of the town. Kishtwar is bordered by the Anantnag and Doda districts in the west and northwest,by the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh in the south and the Kargil district of Ladakh in the east and northeast.

The 2013 Kishtwar Riots,which claimed three lives and injured 80,was a conflict between Muslim and Hindu communities in Kishtwar,Jammu and Kashmir. Village Defence Guards (VDGs) formerly known as Village Defence Committees is a civilian militia first established in the mid-1990s in the Chenab Valley area of Indian-administered territory of Jammu and Kashmir for the self-defence of locals,especially Hindus,in remote hilly villages against militancy. It consist of villagers as well as police officers. The VDGs have been accused of numerous human rights violations including dozens of murder and rape cases.

The 2023 Rajouri attacks occurred on 1 and 2 January 2023,respectively at the Dangri village of Rajouri district in the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The first attack,a shooting,resulted in the death of four and injured nine others. In the second attack,an IED exploded near the same attack site,resulting in the death of a child at the scene and injuring five others. A second child injured in that blast died from injuries,raising the overall death toll to six.
