The bike race is most famous for riding up Snake Alley, which was named by Ripley's Believe It Or Not as the crookedest alley in the world. The Snake Alley portion of the race includes a 60-foot (18 m) ascent on the 276-foot-long (84 m) alley and includes five major turns.

He competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, PR China.

The Australian National Criterium Championships cover several different categories of Australian road bicycle racing events, normally held annually. The elite event is normally held in the December the preceding year, for example the 2009 championships were held on 14 December 2008, and the 2008 championships were held on 2 December 2007. Occasionally the event will be held in January and under 23 events combined with the elite race. Each year the championships are held in a different location, often incorporated in other annual criterium events.

The Nevada City Classic, is a one-day road cycling race held in Nevada City, California. Established in 1960, the Nevada City Classic commonly occurs on Father's Day and brings in thousands of visitors to Nevada County. While the first race brought out approximately 1,500 spectators, the numbers have swelled to 15,000 spectators in recent years. Sponsored by the Nevada City Chamber of commerce, the schedule includes Women's, Junior's, and Master's races, in addition to the Men's main event. Past winners include Greg LeMond.

Carnegie Caulfield Cycling Club is an Australian cycling club based in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. Established in the early 1900s, it has a long history of road, criterium and track racing. Carnegie-Caufield riders have won multiple cycling premierships at both senior and junior level. Its members have gone on to win multiple national and world championships as well as participate at the Olympics.

The Manhattan Beach Grand Prix is a single-day road cycling race held in Manhattan Beach, California. The race takes place annually in July and was first contested in 1962. The race was founded by Ted Ernst and takes place as a criterium on a 1.3-mile course, which it has used for very edition since its inception.
