Super Simple Songs is a Canadian YouTube channel and streaming media show created by Devon Thagard and Troy McDonald. [2] They publish animated videos of both traditional nursery rhymes and their own original children's songs. As of April 30, 2011, it is the 105th most-subscribed YouTube channel in the world and the second most-subscribed YouTube channel in Canada, with 41.4 million subscribers, and the 23rd most-viewed YouTube channel in the world and the most-viewed YouTube channel in Canada, with 49.7 billion views. Super Simple Songs was started in 2005 by teachers of a small English school in Japan. They created their own songs in place of children's songs that were too complex and difficult to be used in teaching. After increasing in popularity from other teachers, they released their first CD. At some point, Super Simple Songs began uploading videos to YouTube. They originally uploaded videos of teaching tips for teachers on how to use their songs in the classroom. They started uploading videos just for kids after realizing that kids were also watching the teaching tips. [4]
Since 2015, Super Simple has been run by Toronto-based creative studio Skyship Entertainment. [5] In June 2017, Skyship and Sesame Street's Sesame Studios announced a content sharing partnership. [6] Super Simple announced a collaboration with The Wiggles in December 2018. [7] In September 2020, Super Simple Songs signed a deal with Warner Music Group's Arts Music division and Warner Chappell Music. [8] [9] [10] At the time, it was ranked as the 36th biggest YouTube channel with 133.4m weekly views, 24.6 million subscribers and 22.8bn lifetime views. [11]
The channel's content is now available through a dedicated mobile app, Amazon Prime Video, and other platforms. [12] [13] In February 2023, Super Simple launched the Super Simple Podcast for children. [14]
The Wiggles are an Australian children's music group formed in Sydney in 1991. As of 2022, the group members are Anthony Field, Lachlan Gillespie, Simon Pryce, Tsehay Hawkins, Evie Ferris, John Pearce, Caterina Mete and Lucia Field. The Wiggles were founded in 1991 by Anthony Field, Murray Cook, Jeff Fatt, Greg Page and Phillip Wilcher. Wilcher left the group after their first album. Page retired in 2006 due to ill health and was replaced by understudy Sam Moran, but returned in 2012, replacing Moran. At the end of 2012, Cook, Fatt and Page retired and were replaced by Gillespie, Pryce and Emma Watkins. Cook and Fatt retained their shareholding in the group and all three continued to have input into its creative and production aspects, while engaging in occasional reunion performances. Watkins departed the group in 2021, with the group subsequently adopting an expanded line-up of eight members.
