Susan Cox OAM is an Australian diplomat and is a career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. She has served in several ambassadorial positions, including as Australian Ambassador to the Federated States of Micronesia from 2007 to 2011 and Australian Ambassador to Croatia from 2012 to 2017.
From 1990 to 1993, Cox was Australia's Vic-Consul in New Caledonia. Between 1993 and 1998 she worked in areas of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) that focused on Pacific policies. In 1998 she was appointed Deputy High Commissioner in Vanuatu, a role she served in until 2001. [2]
She was manager of DFAT's Consular Coordination Unit from 2002 to 2003, before joining the Consular Policy and Crisis Management Section (where she worked between 2003 and 2006). [3] In 2003 she was awarded an Order of Australia Medal for her work assisting victims and their families following the Bali bombings, she was one of 199 people recognised for their work in the wake of the attacks. [4]
Cox took up an appointment as Australian Ambassador to the Federated States of Micronesia in 2007, formally presenting her credentials to the President in November 2007. [2] During her tenure, Cox regarded the Pacific patrol boat program, which financially supports the Federated States of Micronesia's maritime surveillance capacity, as the central pillar of the bilateral security relationship. [5] When reflecting on the role at the end of the posting in 2011, Cox described President Mori signing the Pacific Partnership for Development Agreement with Australia as one of her major achievements. [6] The agreement meant that the Federated States of Micronesia had a separate, direct agreement with Australia for aid, with specific aid goals. [7] Cox had also signed a treaty for the exchange of tax information between Australia and the Marshall Islands, in 2010. [8]
On 28 September 2012, Cox was appointed Australian Ambassador to Croatia. [9] and she presented her credentials to Croatian President Ivo Josipović on 14 December 2012. [10]
The Federated States of Micronesia, or simply Micronesia, is an island country in Oceania. It consists of four states – from west to east, Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei and Kosrae – that are spread across the western Pacific. Together, the states comprise around 607 islands that cover a longitudinal distance of almost 2,700 km (1,678 mi) just north of the equator. They lie northeast of Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, south of Guam and the Marianas, west of Nauru and the Marshall Islands, east of Palau and the Philippines, about 2,900 km (1,802 mi) north of eastern Australia, 3,400 km (2,133 mi) southeast of Japan, and some 4,000 km (2,485 mi) southwest of the main islands of the Hawaiian Islands.
The government of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) conducts its own foreign relations. Since independence in 1986, the FSM has established diplomatic relations with a number of nations, including most of its Pacific neighbors.
The president of the Federated States of Micronesia is the head of state and government of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM). The FSM president, by virtue of his or her office, is the head of the FSM Cabinet and is in charge of the administration and operations of the National Government. The president is assisted by the vice-president, both of whom are elected by the FSM Congress from among the at-large members to serve for four-year terms. The current and ninth president of the FSM is Daniel Panuelo, who replaced Peter Christian on 11 May 2019.

President John Haglelgam was the first senior government agent from Micronesia to visit China, doing so in 1990. The current Chinese ambassador to Micronesia is Zhang Weidong, while the Micronesian ambassador to Beijing is Akillino H. Susaia.
Iris Green Falcam was an American-born Micronesian librarian, researcher and public servant. Falcam served as the First Lady of the Federated States of Micronesia from 1999 to 2003 during the tenure of her husband, former President Leo Falcam.
Robert Ruecho is a Micronesian politician and diplomat. Ruecho served as the Governor of Yap, one of the four states which make up the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), from 2003 to 2007. He became the Consul-General for FSM on neighboring Guam on October 17, 2011.
Jane Jimmy Chigiyal is a Micronesian diplomat. On October 4, 2011, Chigiyal was confirmed as the Permanent Representative to the United Nations in a 13–1 vote in the 17th session of the Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia. Chigiyal's confirmation made her the first female Ambassador from the Federated States of Micronesia in history. She presented her credentials to Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon on December 2, 2011.
Gerald M. Zackios is a Marshallese politician and diplomat. He was a member of the Legislature of the Marshall Islands (Nitijeļā) from 2000 until 2012. During this period he was Minister in Assistance to the President of Marshall Islands from 2000 until 2001 and Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2001 until 2007. He serves as the Ambassador of the Republic of the Marshall Islands to the United States since June 2016.

An independence referendum for Chuuk State to secede from the Federated States of Micronesia was originally scheduled to take place in March 2015. Other concerns include political power within the federation and the preservation of cultural identity.
India–Federated States of Micronesia relations refers to the international relations that exist between the Republic of India and the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM). The Embassy of India in Manila, Philippines is concurrently accredited to FSM.
Beauleen Carl-Worswick is a Micronesian judge. She has been an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the Federated States of Micronesia since September 2010. She is the first woman judge of the Supreme Court.
