Emanuel "Manny" Mori (born December 25,1949) is a Micronesian politician who served as President of the Federated States of Micronesia from 11 May 2007 to 11 May 2015.
Mori was born on the island of Fefan and attended and graduated from Xavier High School. Following his graduation in 1969,Mori went to the University of Guam. Mori proceeded to graduate in 1973 with a BA in Business Management.
After completing his university education,Mori was chosen for a management internship at Citicorp Credit-Guam. In 1974,he became the Assistant Manager at the Citicorp branch in Saipan. Mori left Citicorp in 1976 after he accepted the position of Assistant Administrator of the Trust Territory Social Security Office. In 1979,he became the National Revenue Officer for the State of Chuuk,administering the Tax &Revenue Office. He then served as the Comptroller of the FSM Development Bank from 1981 until 1983 and subsequently as the President and CEO until 1997. Finally,he was the Executive Vice President of the Bank of the Federated States of Micronesia from 1997 until his 1999 election to Congress.
Mori was first elected to the FSM Congress in a special election for Chuuk State’s at-large held on July 1,1999. He was subsequently re-elected in 2001,2003,2005 and 2007.
In 2003,President Mori went on a hiatus from politics and accepted the position of General Manager and Chief Executive Officer for the ailing Chuuk Public Utilities Corporation. Under his management,the Corporation undertook and successfully executed measures of progressive reform which include the restoration of 24-hour power services to Weno,the capital island of Chuuk State. [1] The following year,President Mori re-entered the political arena as his home state’s four year or at-large representative to the 13th FSM Congress. In that Congress he served as Vice Chairman of the Committee on External Affairs with membership on the other committees.
During the reorganization of the 14th FSM Congress in 2005,President Mori became the Chairman of the Committee on Resources and Development with membership on the other committees.
On May 11,2007,Mori was elected President of the Federated States of Micronesia,defeating the incumbent,Joseph Urusemal. He took office with immediate effect and thus vacated his seat in the Congress. As president,Mori brought environmental concerns and impacts in the four island states to the forefront of global discussions. [2]
Genealogical records showed that Mori is the great-grandson of Koben Mori. [3] A native of Shikoku,Japan and the son of a samurai,Koben Mori was among the first Japanese to settle in Micronesia. Koben Mori first established himself in Moen,Chuuk but later resettled in Tol. He married the daughter of a local chieftain from Weno,with whom he had six sons and five daughters. [4] Koben Mori's eldest son Taro is the paternal grandfather of Manny Mori. [5]
During his tenure as president,Mori made an official visit to his ancestral homeland in Kochi prefecture in 2008 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of bilateral relations between Japan and the Federated States of Micronesia. He received a warm welcome from the governor and mayor. [6] [7] Mori also paid respects to his ancestor,the primogenitor of the Mori clan,Mori Katsunobu. [fn 1] [8]
Mori has four daughters from his first wife Elina Ekiek. He is remarried to Emma Mori.
The Federated States of Micronesia, or simply Micronesia, is an island country in Micronesia, a subregion of Oceania. It consists of four states—from west to east, Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei and Kosrae—that are spread across the western Pacific. Together, the states comprise around 607 islands that cover a longitudinal distance of almost 2,700 km (1,700 mi) just north of the equator. They lie northeast of Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, south of Guam and the Marianas, west of Nauru and the Marshall Islands, east of Palau and the Philippines, about 2,900 km (1,800 mi) north of eastern Australia, 3,400 km (2,100 mi) southeast of Japan, and some 4,000 km (2,485 mi) southwest of the main islands of the Hawaiian Islands.
Joseph John "Joe" Urusemal is a Micronesian political figure who served as the sixth President of the Federated States of Micronesia from 2003 until 2007.
Satawan Atoll is an atoll located about 250 kilometers (160 mi) southeast of Chuuk Lagoon proper. Geographically it is part of the Nomoi or Mortlock Islands in the Carolines and administratively it is part of Chuuk State in the Federated States of Micronesia. About 3,000 people live on a land area of 5 square kilometers (1.9 sq mi).

Weno, formerly Moen, is an island municipality of Chuuk State of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM). It is the largest town in the FSM. It has an estimated area of 20 square kilometers.
Chuuk State is one of the four states of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM). The other states are Kosrae State, Pohnpei State, and Yap State. It consists of several island groups: Namoneas, Faichuuk, the Hall Islands, Namonuito Atoll, Pattiw, and the Mortlock Islands. Chuuk is by far the FSM's most populous state, with 50,000 inhabitants on 120 square kilometers. Chuuk Lagoon is where most people live. Weno island, in the lagoon, is Chuuk's state capital and the country's biggest city. It may hold a referendum on independence in the near future, although this referendum has been repeatedly postponed.

Xavier High School is a private, Catholic coeducational college preparatory school high school run by the US East Province of the Society of Jesus on the island of Weno in Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia. It was established by the Jesuits in 1952. It was the first high school in the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands. Bishop Thomas Feeney, S.J., D.D. from the New York Province of the Society of Jesus originally envisioned a minor seminary to train local clergy. Soon after, Xavier Seminary became the first college preparatory school in the Western Pacific.

Mori Koben was a Japanese businessman and adventurer, who was best remembered as one of the first Japanese pioneers in Micronesia. As a young man, Mori migrated from Japan to Chuuk, where he helped to establish Japanese businesses in Micronesia. Mori's guidance and direction helped to expand Japanese business interests throughout Micronesia during the Spanish and German colonial-era. After Japan annexed Micronesia from Germany in 1914, Mori was hired as an adviser to the Japanese administration in the South Seas Mandate, and was instrumental in encouraging Japanese settlement in Micronesia. In his final years during World War II, Mori facilitated Micronesian support in the Japanese war efforts, but was already suffering from failing health from old age. He died within a few days after the Japanese surrender, and a sizeable minority of Micronesians with Japanese ancestry from Chuuk trace their ancestry back to Mori.
Parliamentary elections were held in the Federated States of Micronesia on 8 March 2011, alongside a three-part referendum. As there were no political parties, all 34 candidates ran as independents. For the first time in the country's history, two women ran for election, both in Chuuk State. However, neither was elected.
Wesley W. Simina is a Micronesian politician who has served as the president of the Federated States of Micronesia since 2023. He served as the governor of Chuuk State, one of the four states that constitute the Federated States of Micronesia, from July 2005 to July 2011.
Iris Green Falcam was an American-born Micronesian librarian, researcher and public servant. Falcam served as the First Lady of the Federated States of Micronesia from 1999 to 2003 during the tenure of her husband, former President Leo Falcam.
Robert Ruecho is a Micronesian politician and diplomat. Ruecho served as the Governor of Yap, one of the four states which make up the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), from 2003 to 2007. He became the Consul-General for FSM on neighboring Guam on October 17, 2011.
An independence referendum for Chuuk State to secede from the Federated States of Micronesia was originally scheduled to take place in March 2015. However, it has been delayed three times and it is uncertain if it will take place. The most populous of the four states within the FSM, Chuuk has high levels of unemployment and there are long-standing tensions over the distribution of funding within the FSM. Other concerns include political power within the federation and the preservation of cultural identity.
Typhoon Maysak, known in the Philippines as Typhoon Chedeng, was the most powerful pre-April tropical cyclone on record in the Northwestern Pacific Ocean. The fourth named storm of the 2015 Pacific typhoon season, Maysak originated as a tropical depression on March 26. The next day, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) upgraded the depression to a tropical storm and assigned it the name Maysak. According to the JMA, Maysak became the second typhoon of the year on March 28. The typhoon underwent explosive intensification into a Category 5 super typhoon on March 31, passing near the islands of Chuuk and Yap in the Federated States of Micronesia. After maintaining that intensity for 18 hours, Maysak weakened, made landfall over the Philippine island of Luzon as a minimal tropical storm, and dissipated shortly afterwards.
