The Federated States of Micronesia,or simply Micronesia,is an island country in Micronesia subregion of Oceania. It consists of four states—from west to east,Yap,Chuuk,Pohnpei and Kosrae—that are spread across the western Pacific. Together,the states comprise around 607 islands that cover a longitudinal distance of almost 2,700 km (1,700 mi) just north of the equator. They lie northeast of Indonesia and Papua New Guinea,south of Guam and the Marianas,west of Nauru and the Marshall Islands,east of Palau and the Philippines,about 2,900 km (1,800 mi) north of eastern Australia,3,400 km (2,100 mi) southeast of Japan,and some 4,000 km (2,485 mi) southwest of the main islands of the Hawaiian Islands.
The politics of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) takes place in a framework of a federal assembly-independent representative democratic republic. The President of the Federated States of Micronesia is both head of state and head of government. Executive power is exercised by the president and his cabinet,while legislative power is vested in both the president and the Congress. The judiciary is independent of the executive and the legislature.
Pohnpei is an island of the Senyavin Islands which are part of the larger Caroline Islands group. It belongs to Pohnpei State,one of the four states in the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM). Major population centers on Pohnpei include Palikir,the FSM's capital,and Kolonia,the capital of Pohnpei State. Pohnpei Island is the largest with an area of 334 km2 (129 sq mi),and a highest point of 782 m (2,566 ft),the most populous with 36,832 people,and the most developed single island in the FSM.
Palikir is the capital city of the Federated States of Micronesia located in the western Pacific Ocean. A town of slightly under 5,000 residents,it is part of the larger Sokehs municipality,which had a population of 6,647 as of 2010,out of the nation's total population of 106,487. It is situated on the northwest side of Pohnpei island,a high volcanic island surrounded by a fringing coral reef. Nearby to the northeast is the island's largest settlement,the coastal town of Kolonia. It was declared the capital of Micronesia in 1989.
The flag of the Federated States of Micronesia was adopted on 30 November 1978. The blue field represents the Pacific Ocean. In an echo of U.S. heraldic practice,the stars represent the four federated states:Chuuk,Pohnpei,Kosrae and Yap,arranged like the points of the compass.
The president of the Federated States of Micronesia is the head of state and government of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM). The FSM president,by virtue of his or her office,is the head of the FSM Cabinet and is in charge of the administration and operations of the National Government. The president is assisted by the vice-president,both of whom are elected by the FSM Congress from among the at-large members to serve for four-year terms. The current and tenth president of the FSM is Wesley Simina,who replaced David Panuelo on 11 May 2023.
Yap State,is one of the four states of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM). The other states are Kosrae State,Pohnpei State,and Chuuk State.

Diplomatic relations between China and the Federated States of Micronesia were established on September 11,1989. The Chinese government first established an embassy in the capital of Palikir in 1990,and dispatched its first ambassador in 1991. In April 2023,the Chinese government allegedly threatened to assassinate the Micronesian president,David Panuelo,and so,Micronesia severed official relations between the two countries. It said it decided to increase relations with Taiwan and it accused China of bribing officials and trying to control the United States’influence in the region. Initially,the Micronesian ambassador to Tokyo,Japan also served as Micronesia's ambassador to China,before Micronesia established an embassy in Beijing in 2007. President John Haglelgam was the first senior government agent from Micronesia to visit China,doing so in 1990. The current Chinese ambassador to Micronesia is Zhang Weidong,while the Micronesian ambassador to Beijing is Akillino H. Susaia.
Iris Green Falcam was an American-born Micronesian librarian,researcher and public servant. Falcam served as the First Lady of the Federated States of Micronesia from 1999 to 2003 during the tenure of her husband,former President Leo Falcam.
Australia–Federated States of Micronesia relations are the bilateral relations between Australia and Federated States of Micronesia (FSM). Australia was the first country to start diplomatic relations with FSM in 1987 and is one of the four countries that have resident ambassadors to Micronesia. The two countries are members of the Pacific Islands Forum.
An independence referendum for Chuuk State to secede from the Federated States of Micronesia was originally scheduled to take place in March 2015. However,it has been delayed three times and it is uncertain if it will take place. The most populous of the four states within the FSM,Chuuk has high levels of unemployment and there are long-standing tensions over the distribution of funding within the FSM. Other concerns include political power within the federation and the preservation of cultural identity.

The Federated States of Micronesia is a United States Associated State consisting of 4 states across the Western Pacific Ocean. The estimated population in 2015 was 105,216. Formerly the FSM was a part of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands (TTPI) but in 1979 formed its own constitutional government. Beauleen Carl-Worswick is a Micronesian judge. She has been an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the Federated States of Micronesia since September 2010. She is the first woman judge of the Supreme Court.

Gardenia Aisek is a Microneasian educator and government official. Aisek was the first woman elected to the Chuuk State Legislature. She then became the first female Secretary of the Federated States of Micronesia Department of Education.
