Jeffrey Davidson Bostic,FB (born 27 October 1960),popularly known as "The Colonel",is a Barbadian politician,army officer and the President-elect of Barbados. He was a cabinet minister in the cabinet of Mia Mottley. [1] Bostic was the Minister of Health and Wellness of Barbados and a Member of the House of Assembly of Barbados. [2] . On 7 October 2025,Bostic was elected by the Parliament of Barbados to become the country's second president,and is to take office on 30 November 2025. [3]
Jeffrey Davidson Bostic was born on 27 October 1960 in the capital city of Bridgetown. He attended St. Mary’s Infants and Junior School and Combermere. He then studied at the University of the West Indies where he secured a Bachelor of Arts degree from the university. He also holds a post graduate diploma from the Inter-American Defence College in the field of Hemispheric Security.
Bostic has served in several positions in the Barbados Defence Force,in 1989 during his time in the military,Bostic served as equerry to Queen Elizabeth II during her last visit to Barbados and also worked with Governor-General Sir Hugh Springer as an aide de camp. In 2006,he had retired as a Commanding Officer of the Barbados Regiment and Director of Operations at the RSS from the Barbados Defence Force after serving over 30 years in the army. [4]
Jeffrey was first elected to the Barbados House of Assembly in 2013,after successfully securing the majority vote in the 2013 general elections of Barbados. He was elected on 21 February 2013. [5] After his first term he was re-elected in 2018 as a member of parliament. Bostic retained his position in the May 24,2018 election and was subsequently appointed Minister of Health. [6]
He retired on January 18,2022 as Minister of Health of Barbados after serving for almost four years. [7] [8]
Bostic was nominated jointly,by the Prime Minister Mia Mottley and Leader of the Opposition Ralph Thorne on 16 September 2025,to be the second President of Barbados. [9]
Given there were no objections at the joint sitting of Parliament,Bostic was declared elected without a vote on 7 October 2025. Due to his election,Bostic will be sworn in on 30 November to succeed Dame Sandra Mason,which will be the 59th anniversary of Barbadian independence.
In 2022,Bostic was conferred the Order of Freedom of Barbados (F.B.).
