Sutthamalli is a village in the Maanoor Revenue Block of Tirunelveli district, Tamil Nadu, India. [1] It is located on the bank of Thamirabarani River. It is located near by Tirunelveli Municipal Corporation.

Tirunelveli district is a district of Tamil Nadu state in South India. It is the largest district in terms of area with Tirunelveli as its headquarters. Tirunelveli District was formed on 1 September 1790 by the British East India Company, and comprised the present Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi districts and parts of Virudhunagar and Ramanathapuram district. As of 2011, the district had a population of 3,077,233.

Thamirabarani River river in India

The Thamirabarani River(Porunai) is a perennial river that originates from the Agastyarkoodam peak of Pothigai hills of the Western Ghats, above Papanasam in the Ambasamudram taluk. It flows through Tirunelveli and Tuticorin districts of the Tamil Nadu state of southern India into the Gulf of Mannar. It was called the Tamraparni River in the pre-classical period, a name it lent to the island of Sri Lanka. The old Tamil name of the river is Porunai. From the source to sea, the river is about 128 kilometres (80 mi) long and is the only perennial river in South India. This river flows towards north direction initially. However, it changes to east direction later.

It is situated on State highway 41A ( Tirunveli - Pottalpudur), The nearby Railway station is Pettai Railway station. The nearby college is M.D.T Hindu college.

Nagercoil–Tirunelveli line

The Nagercoil–Tirunelveli line connects the cities of Tirunelveli and Nagercoil in the state of Tamilnadu in Southern Railway zone. Thiruvananthapuram–Nagercoil–Kanyakumari line and Tirunelveli–Nagercoil construction projects were inaugurated by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on 6 September 1972. The maximum speed of trains running between Tirunelveli to Nagercoil is 100 km per hour.
