Tirunelveli City Municipal Corporation is the civic body which administers the city of Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu, India. It consists of a legislative and an executive body. The legislative body is headed by the city mayor while the executive body is headed by a Chief Commissioner.
The former Tirunelveli Municipality was constituted on 1 November 1866 as per the Town Improvements Act of 1865. [1] It initially covered the area of Tirunelveli town and Tirunelveli Junction alone. Palayamkottai used to be an independent municipality. Tirunelveli and Palayamkottai for this reason are even today considered as twin cities. [1] In 1994, Tirunelveli along with Tiruchirappalli and Salem was upgraded to a municipal corporation. Tirunelveli City Municipal Corporation was formed by merging the municipalities of Tirunelveli and Palayamkottai along with surrounding areas. [2]

Tirunelveli City Municipal Corporation is the first Municipal Corporation in the whole country to introduce segregation of waste during collection itself. Plastics and polythene bags are collected only on Wednesdays. If citizens are fined for breaking the rule. [3] [4]

Chidambaram College, Kamaraj College, Anna University, and Government Polytechnic College. The V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority is one of the major ports in India. Thoothukudi is an emerging energy and industrial hub of South India.
Tirunelveli (Tamil: [tiɾɯnelʋeːli], also known as Nellai and historically as Tinnevelly, is a major city in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is the administrative headquarters of the Tirunelveli District. It is the sixth-largest municipal corporation in the state after Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Tiruchirappalli and Salem. Tirunelveli is located 624 km southwest of the state capital Chennai, 58 km away from Thoothukudi, and 73 km from Kanyakumari. The downtown is located on the west bank of the Thamirabarani River; its twin Palayamkottai is on the east bank. Palayamkottai is called the Oxford of South India as it has many schools and colleges. It has several important government offices.
The Greater Chennai Corporation, formerly known as the Corporation of Madras (1688–1996) and Corporation of Chennai (1996–2016), is the civic body that governs the metropolitan city of Chennai in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The city limits, which had been expanded several times over the years, is currently coterminous with the Chennai district.

Palayamkottai is a neighbourhood in Tirunelveli City, incorporated within the Tirunelveli City Municipal Corporation. It is situated on the east bank of the Thamirabarani river, with the exception of its downtown area, which is present on the west bank.

Salem City Municipal Corporation (SCMC) is a civic body that governs Salem city, Tamil Nadu, India. It consists of a legislative and an executive body. The legislative body is headed by the city mayor while the executive body is headed by a Chief Commissioner. This corporation consists of 60 wards and is headed by a Mayor who presides over a Deputy Mayor and 60 councillors who represent each ward in the city. SCMC is the fifth largest municipal corporation in Tamil Nadu. For administrative purposes, the Salem corporation is divided into four zones: Suramangalam, Hasthampatty, Ammapettai, and Kondalampatty. Each Zonal Office has its own Zonal Chairman and an Asst. Commissioner to take care of Zonal Activities.
The Thoothukkudi Municipal Corporation is the governing civic body of Thoothukudi, the sea gate of the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It was established by the Government of Tamil Nadu under the Thoothukkudi Municipal Corporation Act, 2008.
