Suzanne Goin (born 25 September 1966) is an American chef and restaurateur from Los Angeles, California. She was named one of Food & Wine magazine's "best new chefs of 1999" [1] and won a James Beard Award for Outstanding Chef in 2016. [2] In 2006, Goin won the Beard Award for Best Chef: California and one for her cookbook, Sunday Suppers at Lucques. [3]
When Goin was a high school senior at Marlborough School in Los Angeles, she interned at Ma Maison restaurant just after the departure of Wolfgang Puck. After graduation, she enrolled in Brown University where she graduated with honors. Goin then worked at a series of restaurants, including Alice Waters' Chez Panisse and Todd English's Olives. [4] In the early 1990s, she traveled to France. She worked with Alain Passard at his three Michelin-star L'Arpège, along with stints at Didier Oudill's two-star Pain and Patisserie Christian Pottier. After returning to Los Angeles in 1995, she spent two years at Mark Peel’s restaurant Campanile ending up as executive chef. Goin has won or been nominated for a total of 11 James Beard Foundation Awards. [5]
In 1998, Suzanne Goin opened Lucques, which was recognized by Food & Wine and Gourmet magazines. [6] In 2002, she opened A.O.C., which won 3 stars from the Los Angeles Times. Her third restaurant, The Hungry Cat, opened in Hollywood in 2005. [7]
Goin's cookbook, Sunday Suppers at Lucques, was published in late 2005. The next year the book received the James Beard Foundation's award for "Best Cookbook From a Professional Viewpoint." [8] She has also made several television appearances including PBS's series Chef's Story and New York Times food critic Mark Bittman's How to Cook Everything. [9]

Thomas Aloysius Keller is an American chef, restaurateur, and cookbook author. He and his landmark Napa Valley restaurant, The French Laundry in Yountville, California, have won multiple awards from the James Beard Foundation, notably the Best California Chef in 1996, and the Best Chef in America in 1997. The restaurant was a perennial winner in the annual Restaurant Magazine list of the Top 50 Restaurants of the World - the voting process has since been changed to disallow previous winners from being considered.

Tom Douglas is an American executive chef, restaurateur, author, and radio talk show host, and winner of the 1994 James Beard Award for Best Northwest Chef. In 2012 he also won the James Beard Award as Best Restaurateur. He is the author of Tom Douglas' Seattle Kitchen, which was named the Best American Cookbook by the James Beard Foundation and KitchenAid, in 2001. In 2005, he appeared on an episode of the Food Network's Iron Chef America, in which he defeated Chef Masaharu Morimoto.
The James Beard Foundation Awards are annual awards presented by the James Beard Foundation to recognize chefs, restaurateurs, authors and journalists in the United States. They are scheduled around James Beard's May 5 birthday. The media awards are presented at a dinner in New York City; the chef and restaurant awards were also presented in New York until 2015, when the foundation's annual gala moved to Chicago. Chicago will continue to host the Awards until 2027.

Judy Rodgers was an American chef, restaurateur, and cookery book writer. She became famous at Zuni Café, in San Francisco, California, of which she became chef in 1987. Rodgers' food was influenced both by Chez Panisse, where she had worked, and by the food of France, where she had spent time as an exchange student living with the family of Jean Troisgros. The Zuni Café Cookbook, published in 2002, spread the influence of her painstaking, attentive approach to food further outside the United States.
