Suzanne Legault was the Information Commissioner of Canada from June 2010 to February 2018. Prior to her appointment,Legault was the Assistant Information Commissioner from 2007 to 2009 and held the position of interim Information Commissioner from June 2009 to June 2010.
In 1988,Legault graduated from McGill Law School with a bachelor's degree in civil and common law. [1] She also went to the Osgoode Hall Law School to obtain an additional legal certificate in adjudication. [2]
Legault began her career as a defence lawyer throughout the 1990s and was briefly a Crown attorney. In 1996,she continued her legal career with the Competition Bureau and later became a counsel for the Department of Justice. [3]
From 2007 to 2009,Legault was the Assistant Information Commissioner of Canada. In June 2009,Legault was named interim Information Commissioner after the retirement of Robert Marleau. [4] Almost a year after being named interim Information Commissioner,Legault was appointed as the Information Commissioner of Canada in June 2010. [1]
Near the end of her seven year tenure,Legault declared that she was not seeking re-election as Information Commissioner when her position expired in June 2017. [5] However,Legault's position was extended twice to February 2018 when the Canadian federal government could not find an immediate successor. [6] Legault remained as Information Commissioner until the end of February 2018 after her replacement Caroline Maynard was announced. [7]
Legault was awarded the 2016 Spencer Moore Award by the Canadian Committee for World Press Freedom. [8]
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police,commonly known in English as the Mounties is the federal and national police service of Canada. As police services are the constitutional responsibility of provinces and territories of Canada,the RCMP's primary responsibility is the enforcement of federal criminal law,and sworn members of the RCMP have jurisdiction as a peace officer in all provinces and territories of Canada. Patrick Denis Marleau is a Canadian former professional ice hockey forward. With 1,779 NHL games played,he is the all-time leader in games played in league history. He passed the record previously held by Gordie Howe in his 1,768th game on April 19,2021. Marleau has 1,779 career NHL games he scored 1,197 points throughout his entire NHL career. The San Jose Sharks drafted Marleau second overall in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft,and Marleau spent the vast majority of his NHL career with the franchise,becoming its all-time leader in goals,even strength goals,power play goals,points,shots,and games played. Marleau is also the fourth player in National Hockey League history to record 900 consecutive games played,reaching the mark one game after breaking the overall games played record. He was the third-last active player who played in the NHL in the 1990s.

The Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner of Canada is an entity of the Parliament of Canada. The commissioner is an independent officer of Parliament,who administers the Conflict of Interest Act and the Conflict of Interest Code for Members of the House of Commons and is supported in this role by the Office of the Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner. The position came into effect on July 9,2007,with the coming into force of the Conflict of Interest Act. This act,in turn,was enacted as part of the Federal Accountability Act.

The Access to Information Act or Information Act is a Canadian Act providing the right of access to information under the control of a federal government institution. As of 2020,the Act allowed "people who pay $5 to request an array of federal files". Paragraph 2. (1) of the Act ("Purpose") declares that government information should be available to the public,but with necessary exceptions to the right of access that should be limited and specific,and that decisions on the disclosure of government information should be reviewed independently of government. Later paragraphs assign responsibility for this review to an Information Commissioner,who reports directly to parliament rather than the government in power. However,the Act provides the commissioner the power only to recommend rather than compel the release of requested information that the commissioner judges to be not subject to any exception specified in the Act.

Under the province's fixed election date law,passed in 2013,"the general election following the end of a Legislature shall be held on the first Monday of October of the fourth calendar year following the year that includes the last day of the previous Legislature",setting the date for October 3,2022.
