Suzy Lee Weiss is an American journalist and co-founder [1] of The Free Press, along with her older sister Bari Weiss. [2] [3]
Weiss gained notoriety for her viral 2013 op-ed in The Wall Street Journal , where as a senior at Taylor Allderdice High School in Pittsburgh she complained that four Ivy League universities had rejected her. [4] [5] [6] [7] The piece received mixed reactions, with Kira Goldenberg writing for the Columbia Journalism Review that "It was irresponsible for the WSJ to let a teen create a search history she could end up regretting". [8] [9] [10] [11] Others characterized the op-ed as being an accurate commentary on the "hypocrisies and absurdities" of the college admissions process, while noting the lack of a "fallback" college option. [12] Weiss later said that her op-ed was satire. [13]
Weiss later attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor where she edited the campus satirical newspaper, the Every Three Weekly. [14] [15]
Weiss previously worked as a features reporter at the New York Post . [16]
In 2021, along with her sister Bari Weiss and sister-in-law Nellie Bowles, she co-founded The Free Press, a media outlet. [17] [18] [19] Weiss serves as a columnist, and has extensively covered pop culture and entertainment there. [20]
In 2025, The Free Press was acquired by Paramount Skydance. [17] [21]
