Weiss gained notoriety for her viral 2013 op-ed in The Wall Street Journal, where as a senior at Taylor Allderdice High School she complained that she had been rejected from four Ivy League universities.[2][3][4][5] The piece received mixed reactions, with Kira Goldenberg writing for the Columbia Journalism Review that "It was irresponsible for the WSJ to let a teen create a search history she could end up regretting".[6][7][8][9] Others characterized the op-ed as an accurate commentary on the "hypocrisies and absurdities" of the college admissions process, while noting the lack of a "fallback" college option.[10]
Weiss later attended the University of Michigan, where she edited the campus satirical newspaper, the Every Three Weekly.[12][13]

In 2021, Suzy joined The Free Press, the media outlet founded by her sister Bari Weiss and sister in law Nellie Bowles,[15] where she has extensively covered pop culture and entertainment.[16]
