The Swedish Handball Cup (Swedish : Svenska cupen i handboll) is the nationwide cup tournament for handball teams in Sweden. It's also known as ATG Svenska cupen for sponsorship reasons. The competition was at first held between 1968 and 1991, and then brought back in 2021. [1] [2]

Contents

The cup starts with a group phase, followed by a knockout stage where the teams face each other home and away in the last 16 and quarterfinals. [3] From the 2023/24 season the semifinals, bronzematch and final is played as a Final four event. [4]

The 1995–96 Svenska Cupen was the 41st season of the main Swedish football Cup. The competition was concluded on 23 May 1996 with the final held in Gamla Ullevi, Göteborg. AIK won 1-0 against Malmö FF before an attendance of 2,745 spectators. A different format was used for the competition with the number of teams entered reduced by almost half compared with the previous year and the third round was run on a group basis.

The 2013 Svenska Cupen final was played on 26 May 2013. The match was played at the national stadium Friends Arena in Solna which was completed in November 2012 and hosted the final for the first time. The final made its return to Solna for the first time since 2009 and it was also the first time since 2006 that the final was played at a neutral venue. The final was the culmination of the 2012–13 Svenska Cupen, and the first time since 2001 that the final was held in springtime. Allsvenskan clubs Djurgårdens IF and IFK Göteborg contested the 2013 final. In Sweden the match was televised live on SVT.
