The women's 200 metre breaststroke event at the 2010 Asian Games took place on 17 November 2010 at Guangzhou Aoti Aquatics Centre.

Contents

There were 16 competitors from 10 different countries who took part in this event. Two heats were held, the heat in which a swimmer competed did not formally matter for advancement, as the swimmers with the top eight times from the entire field qualified for the finals.

Jeong Da-rae from South Korea won the gold medal, it was the first gold medal for Korean female swimmers since 1998 Asian Games. Sun Ye and Ji Liping of People's Republic of China won the silver and bronze medal respectively.

Ye Shiwen is a Chinese swimmer. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, she won gold medals in the 400 metres and 200 metres individual medley, breaking the world record in the 400 m event and the Olympic record in the 200 m event.

Back Su-Yeon is a South Korean swimmer, who specialized in breaststroke events. She edged out her teammate Jung Seul-Ki to take a bronze medal by 0.31 of a second in the 200 m breaststroke at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, China, with a time of 1:10.22. Back is also a member of Kang-won-do Cheong swimming club in Seoul. Previously in 2006, Back had won bronze in the 100 m breaststroke at the 2006 Asian Games.

Jung Seul-ki is a South Korean swimmer, who specialized in breaststroke events. She finished eleventh in the women's 200 m breaststroke at the 2008 Summer Olympics, and has won a career total of four medals in a major international competition, spanning the 2006 Pan Pacific Championships, the 2006 Asian Games, and the 2007 Summer Universiade. Jung also served as a varsity member of the swimming team at Yonsei University.

Ratapong "Nuk" Sirisanont is a Thai former swimmer, who specialized in breaststroke, but also competed in long-distance freestyle and individual medley. He is a four-time Olympian, a three-time Asian Games participant, and a seven-time SEA Games athlete (1991–2003). Regarded as Thailand's top swimmer, he has won a total of sixteen medals at the Southeast Asian Games since 1995, and six at the Asian Games, including two golds in the 200 and 400 m individual medley. At the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Sirisanont became the first Thai swimmer to reach the final twice. Sirisanont is also one of three Southeast Asian swimmers, along with Malaysia's Alex Lim and Philippines' Miguel Molina, to train for the California Golden Bears in the United States, under head coach Nort Thornton.

Qin Haiyang is a Chinese swimmer who specializes in the breaststroke and individual medley. He is the current world record holder in the 200m breaststroke. At the 2023 World Aquatics Championships, Qin became the first swimmer in history to win all three breaststroke events at a single edition of the championships. Qin was also the former world junior record holder in the 200m breaststroke and 200m individual medley.
