The men's 50 metre freestyle event at the 2010 Asian Games took place on 15 November 2010 at Guangzhou Aoti Aquatics Centre.

2010 Asian Games 16th edition of the Asian Games

The 2010 Asian Games, also known as the XVI Asian Games, was a multi-sport event celebrated in Guangzhou, Guangdong, China from 12 to 27 November 2010, although several events had commenced from 7 November 2010. This was the second time China host the games, in which Guangzhou was the second Chinese city to host the Games, after Beijing in 1990. A total of 9,704 athletes from 45 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) competed in 476 events from 42 sports and disciplines, making it the largest event in the history of the Games. Due to reductions in the number of sports to be contested for the 2014 Asian Games, these Games marked the final time that six non-Olympic events would be held during the Asian Games.

Contents

There were 44 competitors from 31 countries who took part in this event. Six heats were held, with most containing the maximum number of swimmers (eight). Lü Zhiwu from China won the gold medal with 22.37 seconds, two Japanese swimmers Masayuki Kishida and Rammaru Harada won the silver and bronze medal respectively.

Lü Zhiwu, more commonly spelled "Lv Zhiwu", is a Chinese swimmer, who competed for Team China at the 2008 Summer Olympics and 2012 Summer Olympics. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he was part of the Chinese 4 x 200 m team that won bronze.
