The first world record in the men's 1500 metres freestyle in a long course swimming pool was recognised by the International Swimming Federation (FINA) in 1908. In short course pools, the world's governing body recognizes world records since March 3, 1991.
Chen Zuo is a Chinese swimmer, who competed for Team China at the 2004 Summer Olympics, the 2008 Summer Olympics and the 2012 Summer Olympics. In 2004 he competed in the men's 50 m freestyle and the 4 x 100 and 4 × 200 m freestyle relays. In 2008 he competed in the men's 100 m freestyle and the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay. He served as the former captain of the Chinese National Swimming Team from 2006 to 2013.
The men's 1500 metre freestyle event at the 2010 Asian Games took place on 18 November 2010 at Guangzhou Aoti Aquatics Centre.
Cho Sung-mo is a South Korean former swimmer, who specialized in long-distance freestyle events. He established a South Korean record of 15:12.32 to earn a silver medal in the 1500 m freestyle at the 2002 Asian Games in Busan. During his swimming career, Cho has been training most of the time between the United States and Mexico, under veteran coach and long-time mentor Jack Simon.
Dieung Anak Manggang is a Malaysian former swimmer, who specialised in long-distance freestyle and in butterfly events. He is a single-time Olympian (2000), and a multiple-time SEA Games medalist.
The Men's 1500 metre freestyle event at the 2013 SEA Games took place on 15 December 2013 at Wunna Theikdi Aquatics Centre.
Guilherme Pereira da Costa is a Brazilian swimmer. He is the 400m freestyle bronze medalist at the 2022 World Championships. At the Pan American Games, he was champion of the 400, 800 and 1500 metre freestyle. He is also currently the South American record holder in the 400, 800, and 1500 metre freestyle.
Nguyễn Huy Hoàng is a Vietnamese swimmer. He competed at the 2018 Asian Games, winning silver in the men's 1500 metre freestyle and bronze in the men's 800 metre freestyle. He competed in the Men's 800 metre freestyle and Men's 1500 metre freestyle at the 2020 Summer Olympics. He was the first male Vietnamese swimmer to claim gold at the Youth Olympics.
