Sybil Ludington is celebrated as a heroine of the American Revolutionary War. She reportedly rode to alert militia forces in the towns of Putnam County, New York and Danbury, Connecticut on the night of April 26, 1777 at age 16, warning of the approach of the British regular forces. The ride was similar to those performed by William Dawes, Paul Revere, and Jack Jouett. Ludington reportedly rode more than twice the distance attributed to Revere and was much younger than the men. According to one historian, however, there is no contemporaneous evidence that these events occurred.

Belarus’s entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 was chosen using two phases. The Belarusian broadcaster BT staged a final allowing viewers to choose the top 3 songs in the selection. Of these three, the winner was chosen by a jury behind the scenes. They chose Polina Smolova with her song Mama. The song is an upbeat pop song that resembles the styles of Michael Jackson. Polina attempted to represent Belarus last year, and although she was the public's favourite, she didn't win because she was not selected by the jury. The song was written by Andrey Kostiugov and composed by Sergey Sukhomlin, and has been renamed Mum for the contest in Athens.

Polina Smolova is a pop singer and the country's entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 with the song Mum, with which she took part in the Eurovision semi-final. She is one of the most famous Belarusian pop singers, coming up with very poetic and lyrical songs. Polina is an active participant of numerous concerts and pop-music festivals across Belarus and abroad. She won the Grand Prix at the Slavonic Bazaar 2005 music festival and an award at the Contest for Young Performers.

"Sense tu" was Andorra's entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 2006. Performed in Catalan by Jenny, the song had to qualify from the semi-final, due to Andorra's failure to make the top ten in the previous Contest.

"Mum" was the Belarusian entry at the Eurovision Song Contest 2006, performed in English by Polina Smolova. As the previous Belarusian entry had not finished in the top 10, Smolova performed the song in the semi-final.
