Syed Akhter Hossain (born 1969) is a computer scientist, educator, [1] [2] columnist [3] and technology consultant [4] from Bangladesh. Currently, he is a professor and dean of Computer Science and Engineering department at Daffodil International University (DIU). [5]

He was born in Jessore on 21 January 1969.

Others activities

Hossain is a contest director of ACM-ICPC Dhaka Regionals 2007, 2012 [6] and Chief Judge of National Collegiate Programming Contest in Bangladesh 2015 [7] and Contest Director of NCPC 2014. [8] He is also the Chief Judge of ACM ICPC Dhaka Site 2015 [9] [10] [11] and one of the pioneers of spreading programming education in Bangladesh by organising Computer Science Education Week and NGPC(National Girls Programming Contest). [12]

He is also an organising committee member of ICCIT (International Conference on Computer and Information Technology) at 2013, [13] and hold the chair on 2014. [14]

He is also taking steps to enrich Bengali language content. [15] [16]

The Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) is a statutory government organization operating under the Information and Communication Technology Division of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology of the Government of Bangladesh (GoB). Its headquarters are situated in Agargaon, Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was initially known as the National Computer Committee (NCC) in 1983 and transformed into the Bangladesh Computer Council through Act No. 9 of the National Parliament in 1990.

National Information and Communication Technology Awards is the only state and highest prize in the Information and Communication Technology sector of Bangladesh. The award is being given since 2017.
