Lieutenant-General (ret.) Syed Arif Hasan (born 11 Nov 1950) is a former Pakistani sports administrator and retired 3 star rank general officer in the Pakistan Army. He was the former president of the Pakistan Olympic Association and under his nearly 20-year tenure,the country did not win any medals. He was also elected unopposed as the Vice President of the Olympic Council of Asia in 2007. He also served as chairman of organizing committee of 9th SAF Games Islamabad. [1] [2] [3]
In 2021,he was asked to be stepped down by Shahbaz Gill the then Special Assistant to Imran Khan but Arif refused to do so. [4]
As a Major General he served as Vice Chief of General Staff. In October 2001 he was promoted to rank of Lieutenant-General and appointed commander X corps, [5] Rawalpindi. Later in September 2003 he was appointed commander I Corps,Mangla.
While still serving in army Arif Hasan was appointed chairman of organizing committee of 9th SAF Games Islamabad. SAF Games were originally scheduled in Islamabad in October 2001 but were postponed over security fears after 9/11. [6] They were then rescheduled for March 2002 but were again postponed due to border tensions between Pakistan and India. In March 2002 Pakistan was forced to cancel the event due to the war in Iraq. The Games were finally held in 2004.
Gen Arif Hassan was elected President of Pakistan Olympic Association in November 2004. He was re-elected in 2008 and again in 2012 before finally resigning in 2024. [3] [9]
Pakistan Sports Board which comes under government of Pakistan in its 2005 sports policy put a two term limit on office bearers of sports federations. The policy was reaffirmed by Supreme Court of Pakistan in 2011. Gen Arif Hassan refused to accept this decision taking a plea that it violates the Olympic Charter. In 2012 he was re elected to a third term. While government formed a parallel committee, [10] the International Olympic Committee threatened to ban Pakistan. [11] [12] Finally in July 2014 Pakistan Sports board and Government recognized Arif Hasan as president of POA. [13]
Gen Arif Hasan was elected unopposed as the Vice President of the Olympic Council of Asia in 2007. [14]
He was the President of Archery Federation of Pakistan. [15] [3]
The South Asia Olympic Council (SAOC,) formerly known as the South Asian Sports Federation,,is a governing body of sports in South Asia,currently with 7 member National Olympic Committees. The South Asia Olympic Council is a sports body that looks after sports ties among the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation.
The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) is a governing body of sports in Asia,currently with 45 member National Olympic Committees. Talal Fahad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah was elected as President of the OCA on 8 July 2023. However,on 30 July 2023,the International Olympic Committee asked Randhir Singh,who was the acting president at the time,to continue as the Acting President of the OCA while the IOC investigated the OCA presidential election of 2023. On 13 October 2023,the IOC ethics committee asked the OCA to annul its 2023 elections due to Talal’s candidacy not fulfilling the eligibility conditions defined by the OCA Constitution and election interference by his brother Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah.
The 2004 South Asian Games,officially known as the IX South Asian Federation Games,were held in Islamabad,Pakistan from 29 March to 7 April 2004. Originally scheduled for 2001,the games were postponed in the wake of the 9/11 attacks on the United States in which the US later declared Pakistan a major non-NATO ally. The slogan for the Games was Rising Above. For the first time,Afghanistan participated in the games.

Sondhi was manager of the British Indian Olympic hockey team at the 1932 Summer Olympics,founder of the Western Asiatic Games and the founder of the Asian Games Federation,which held the first Asiad. The 1978 Asian Games,was a multi-sport event held in Bangkok,Thailand from 9 December to 20 December 1978. Originally,the host city was to be Singapore,but it dropped its plan to host the Games due to financial problems. Then the capital of Pakistan,Islamabad,was subsequently chosen to host the games. However Pakistan also dropped its plan to host the games due to conflicts with Bangladesh and India.
The World Muaythai Council (WMC) is one of the oldest professional sanctioning organizations of Muaythai in the world for the sport. The organization was set up in 1995 by parliament resolution,and is incorporated by the Royal Thai Government and sanctioned by the Sports Authority of Thailand,under the Ministry of Tourism and Sports. The council has been charged with the responsibility for the expansion of Muaythai worldwide. This involves supporting youth interest and athletes to learn the skills of Muaythai.

The Pakistan Archery Federation is the governing body to develop and promote the game of archery in Pakistan. It is based in Lahore,Pakistan,and was founded in 1996. It was admitted into the World Archery Federation in 2005.
Hafizullah Wali Rahimi has been serving as president of the National Olympic Committee of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan since April 2018. In September 2021,Rahimi left Afghanistan after the Taliban's return to power. He is still recognized as the Committee's president in exile. He is of Tajik ethnicity. Rahimi is also a member of the Peace Through Sport Committee.
The 2025 South Asian Games,officially the XIV South Asian Games,will be a major multi-sport event held in Pakistan. Lahore will be the main host city of the Games. Faisalabad,Gujranwala,Islamabad and Sialkot will support Lahore in hosting some of the sports. The Games were scheduled to be held in March 2023 again to postponed March 2024,But the Games in Schedule on Febabury 2025 by the South Asian Olympic Council members at the Olympic Council of Asia conference in Cambodia.
Muhammad Shafiq is a Pakistani sports administrator and former track and field sprinter. He is 3rd and current Secretary General of Asian Handball Federation (AHF) since 25 October 2013. He is also holds the position of President in Pakistan Handball Federation since 2012.
The Vice chief of the Army Staff (VCOAS) is the post that is principal deputy and second-in-command (S-in-C) of the Pakistan Army,reporting under the Chief of the Army Staff. The position was created in the existence of army chief is simultaneously the President of Pakistan,having taking over by imposing the martial law against the elected civilian government. The post is now obsolete and no longer in existence with the army –the Chief of the General Staff now serves as the second-in-command in the army leadership.
