Syed Muzaffar Hussain (born 26 August 1966) is an Indian politician from the Indian National Congress (INC). He has served two terms as a Member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council representing the state of Maharashtra. He began his political career in local government and later held organisational roles within the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC),including that of working president. [1] [2]
Hussain was born on 26 August 1966 in Maharashtra to Sayed Nazar Hussain and Sayed Noorzahan Hussain.
Hussain began his political career as a worker in the Indian Youth Congress. He was elected as a corporator to the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation in 1991 and later served as its first Deputy Mayor following the formation of the municipal corporation.
He was first elected to the Maharashtra Legislative Council in 2004 and served until 2010. He was re-elected in 2010 and served a second term until 2016.
Within the Congress party organisation,Hussain has held several roles. He was appointed as one of the working presidents of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee ahead of the 2019 Maharashtra Legislative Assembly elections. In August 2024,he was reappointed as a working president of the MPCC as part of organisational changes ahead of the state assembly elections. [3]
In October 2024,the Indian National Congress released its first list of candidates for the 2024 Maharashtra Legislative Assembly elections,naming Hussain as its candidate from the Mira Bhayandar constituency. [4]
In the election,he contested the Mira Bhayandar seat as the INC candidate and finished as the runner-up to the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Narendra Mehta,securing 83,943 votes. [5]
According to his election affidavit,Hussain lists his profession as businessman and agriculturist. [6]
